An Odd Request: Driver Rear Door

Its been over a year since I have had a back door that opens. I slipped one morning while opening the door and broke something. Right after figuring out I broke something and trying to open it over and over, I noticed I could open it from the inside...

I thought I had a brilliant idea... "Maybe its the child lock"... haha..

Now it does not open from the inside or outside..

WHAT DO I DO?

Thanks everyone!

i don't remember the keywords to do a quick search, but about a couple months ago there was someone on here with something kind of similar. in his case iirc he used the child lock and the inside handle also broke so he couldn't open it either.

if you find that post or if someone remembers that post, then it might help you..good luck!

you are going to have to work hard at opening it. You have a couple options. Remove the rear seats, and trim and force the door panel off with teh door closed so that you can get to the pieces broke to open the door. You can also try removing the rear rubber boot that the wires go into and go in with a cloths hanger and see if you can jimmy the rod that opens the door and open it that way.

Use a tool called a pick (I used a small craftsman one they sell a set of 4 i think i used the 90 degree one) and you can get to the child lock to unlock it. The best way to judge where it is is to look at the other side door. Beware you will have some small scratches around the child lock if your not careful but its worth it to be able to open your door even if it is only from the inside. Then check your outer door handle that's the part that broke on my door.

if that does not work, then yeah back seat has to come out in order to get the door panel off (btw the door panel should not have to be destroyed in the process, should be plenty of room once the seat is out of the way)(you might be able to also open the window, and kinda see through next to the glass)

should not be too hard, since you should be able to pull the seat with one door still shut, then with the seat out of the way, the door panel should come off like if the door was open

This also happened to me as well... You will most likely need to replace your door handle as well.

Hey, I have the EXACT same issue. I have a TL, with the rear door handle broken and the child lock on, thinking that it would fix the door (duh). Did you ever figure out how to do this? I too, have been putting this off for over 18 months, and today is the day for FINALLY fixing this stupid thing..

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Why wont you just use the options above in this thread? Seems like the logical thing to do.
