OBX Headers?

People with OBX headers please give me the lowdown on them!
I found them on Ebay for $299, sounds like a deal...
Are they comparable to the $1000+ CompTech's??

Let me know please!

I have the OBX headers and I don't know why everyone doesn't have it yet! For $300 and a lifetime warranty, what are you waiting for?? You definitely feel the power difference. There is some resonance at 2800 rpms, but after I installed the comptech exhaust, it went away, maybe I just can't hear it, but either way, it's not that much of an annoyance and it's there for only a split second.

If you can't find them on ebay, where can you buy them then?

look for seller dailod on ebay. He always has some for sale. He lives right next to the OBX warehouse so he can always get them.

Thanks for all of your responses!
Does anyone have a dyno chart or know of where I can see one??

Thanks again! I guess I may just have to buy these headers... Anyone DIY install? If so, was it difficult?

Good luck trying to get them to own up to the warranty. Bottom line, there is no warranty with OBX. Read these posts and tell me if you think they are such a good deal.

Here's a quote, "OBX only guarantees the manufacture defects for lifetime, what happened to you is workmanship which is only covered for 120 days from the invoice date."

i have them and i love them. they look great and i noticed nice power gains. i got them from dailod , very nice to deal with and fast shipping.

like goldendragon576 said, there's resonance at about 2250RPM (for me), just for a split of second if you accelerate normally. if you accelerate very slowly, it may last like 1-2 seconds..

overall, i love them

I've heard of cracking OBX's. Save up and go Comptech because then you KNOW you can't go wrong.

Don't know why everyone is so freaked about a crack or leak in a weld. I don't think there is a muffler place around that won't be able to mend that back with a quick spot weld.
*knock on wood* but I'm not too worried about it. If it happens and I can't get it welded back, I'll jump to comptech. Until then, I'm happy with what I have.

i agree, 1200 for comptech and 300 for obx, ill go with obx for that difference. if it were to crack somewhere and it was fixable, id weld it back. but i doubt it would happen. comptec has flaws. my mufflers flanges wernt put on straight, my driversid muffler was about 1 inch off center to the opening, which i had to cut the factory pipe and reweld it so that it was straight. id go for obx if you cant afford or justify 1200 or so on comptech

I am just wondering if you contacted Comptech about the defect? From the posts I've read, it appears Comptech stands behind their products (headers, mufflers, etc) more consistently than many companies including OBX. My guess, and it is only that, is that I believe Comptech would have replaced your muffler. No company is perfect and an occasional defect is expected. More important is how that company handles the problem. I believe the quality of the Comptech headers is superior and IF I had a problem with them (I have not to date, 1 1/2yrs), I believe they would have stepped up and still might if I should have a problem. That's what I paid for. When I was younger I might have gone with OBX because I did not mind messing with parts. Now, I want it in and working.

Bottom line Dolent, if you are open to the possiblity that you will have to repair the OBX header, then save a bunch of coin and go OBX. If you want to feel more secure in the product, and pay a premium for it, then go Comptech.

i did, but they wanted me to send it back to them so they could inspect it and to make a long story short i would have been with out them for acouple weeks to a month and it only took me 20 seconds with a sawzall and another 2 min with a welder to fix the problem. but thats what i was getting at, every company has a problem from time to time, and many members are happy with there product, and i know of alot of other people happy with obx.

That's not a Comptech problem, that's an Acura problem. The muffler brackets are all off. Comptech knows about this and tells everyone to bend the drivers side bracket to get them to hang straight.

no it wasnt a bracket problem, it was the flange on the muffler where you bolt the 2 together, it wasnt welded on in the right position causing the tip to sit about 1 inch off center to the left. not up or down.

Everyone, thank you for your responses. You all have very intelligent insights about the topic. I do believe that I can make a valid decision to purchase the OBX headers now. I am definitely open to the possibility of a bad weld spot easily repairable by any muffler shop or even myself and with the substantial price difference there is no doubt in my mind about customer service and QA understandably.

I appreciate coming on the board as a newb and getting such responses from everyone, thanks again!

I'm being serious! Where do you catch sarcasm in that? I'm new to Acuras as well as this forum and I've had great luck with posting and getting excellent replies!

Buy a set of used Comptech's. Check the for sale forums on some of the acura boards and you'll find some deals. I regularly see used comptech's for around $600.

I bought used CT Headers for $600 like Allout suggests.. i get Comptech quality, NO RESONANCE ISSUES, no cracking issues... and i have Comptech backing up their product.

Just wait around and you'll find used CT's like allout suggested.. obx's are still questionable.. despite good initial reviews.

Headers w/o Exhaust?

Do you get any power gains from OBX (or any other header) w/o upgrading the exhaust? What are the gains like?

I ask because I don't have the $$ to do the exhaust and I'm trying to decide between Crank Pulleys or a header. I know the header will cost more, but if the gain is better...

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Headers give you the most HP gain. Exhaust adds less than 5 HP.
