observation when installing AEM CAI

hi everyone
i've just installed a AEM CAI

loved the sound when you gun it
and the car went more smooth~

observation:
when i take out the stock airbox
i just realize that, its HUGE :wow:, there is another box attached to the upper airbox. The whole thing weight several tones, and one more thing that i realize is that the "hole" which the box take air from is REALLY SMALL, its no more than 7cm.........

Problem:
one thing is that "the instruction SUCKS"
they assume you know which part is which...........
since im not a mechanic, i just print off the intruction from this site and asked my friend for help...............

but one time, when my friedz is installing his INJEN, its like pictures and instruction, explained clearly

and 1 more thing i wanted to check up is that, there is a rubber screw, where in many pic. the rubber screw goes into the upper hole (upper part, near the suspension), but mine went down to a lower hole beside the battery...........WTF
is it right? (mines a 2001 TL)

thanks

1) yup it sounds awesome, it's a must get
2) yes the airbox and the resonator weighs quite a bit, very true
3) the thing that attached to the bottom of the airbox, that's the resonator. that's what make your stock airbox sounds "quiet"
4) well the instructions are pretty good already i think. i didn't know much about cars too and it was ok for me
5) the rubber screw. you hav the aem? i think that goes to the bottom. for the injen it goes to the side

umm... well, at least on my aem, there is only one screw and only one mechanism along the whole pipe to put the screw on. and it happened to be beside the battery, so....?

Here is the upper part you are referring to

Is yours a one pc or 2 ?

AEM recently changed this intake to a one piece, so you probably don't have the same mounting locations..

Ok guys after installation is the performance, disregarding acceleration, any significant changes in terms of mpg. I have heard that gas mileage is decreased with the CAI. Also what I have heard is that the CAI makes people gun the VTEC resulting in a lower mpg. So is the cause of lower mpg the CAI or is the driver? And if you get the CAI can you get a K&N drop in to add to it?

And does the CAI also result in lower torque at lower RPMs but higher in midrange and high?

Thumbs up

Hey guys,

What a timely post! ! !

I have my AEM CAI w/ bypass valve on order - should be my next weekend project.

Can't wait to install it!

Mojojo - is the "hissing sound" annoying? Are you happy with the sound it helps produce when the VTEC kisks in?
Also, how long did it take you to install?
