I have been noticing some weird engine noise for a while, probably the last six months. First, when the car is warm, it sounds like there is a tray rattling somewhere by where the pulleys are.

Second, and most important, I was driving on the Manhattan bridge today and I was stuck in traffic with my drivers window open. With the divider right next to me, I could hear the sound of my engine refracting off the wall. When I accelerated from 1000-2000 rpm's, it sounded like ice shaking in a glass. It was weird. I have heard it in some other cars before and its not a pretty sound. It sounds like its coming from a cylinder or something? What could it be and should I be worried?

Oh, by the way, I treat my engine really well. I haven't redlined it in almost a year. I even hesitate to take it past 3000 rpm's. I know I'm crazy! But... its my baby.

 

Call me old fashion but if it doesn't sound like a pulley making noise or engine knock its time to get to the dealer.

 

I took it to them but they said it was normal. What else do they say? lol
