Not Enough Power

My car is stock (99TL) , but for some reason I still feel that even though I presently do not have any mods my car is still SLOW.

Can anyone is the forum who has a stock car or who has past experince with stock answer any of my following questions.

1/ When you accelerate does your engine humm or sound like the engine is straining?

2/Do you guys get a powerfull push from your engine when you down**** (manually or auto). Meaning do you feel the G's pushing you back into your seat when you floor the pedal.

I feel a little from a standstill, but none when I am doing around 70 or 80 mph and floor it.

3/ From auto, when I hit the pedal to the floor the car takes a while before it accelerates.

When I hit the gas the rpms increases rapidly (the car goes nowhere and the engine whinnes) then the car takes off after a while. (The dealer said that that is normal)

I need to know if I am the only one becuase I went to the dealer with this problem and they told my that that is how tl's are and that they are not sport cars. I ALMOST PUNCHED HIM

He pissed me off, I do not plan to get used to this lack of power. I want to get mods but I want my car up to par before I do so , can you blame me?

I have a 91 Legend that is faster than my 99tl is something wrong here?

I know that they both have the same 3.2 liter engine but there is about eight years technology between the two cars.

SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT HERE PLEASE

I have the same ride....honestly the dealer is right when he said its not a sports car. The best gears in our cars is 2nd and 3rd. When you are cruising at 70 mph on the highway and punch it...there are few cars that will still throw you back - ours will never no matter what mods you have. I still think we have good speed and acceleration at those speeds.

Get some headers, a new intake...sound = a CAI, the Comptech Icebox is good also but no sound or look improvement vs. stock. These two mods give the most of their HP at high rpms so when you punch it, you will feel a difference.

I agree when you say its not that fast, I kinda wish I got a Type S. If you read on here from people who have modded, they all say that the new mod is fun for a while then they get used to it and the car feels slow again. Just do what you can and be happy with it, or get a new car.

What you saying is true, but when I punch my legend at 70 mph you feel the kick.

I love my car but sometimes I wish I had gotton a maxima or something!!!

He/She is prob right. A stock TL-P is a semi-luxy sedan. The type-s turns that into a bit more of a preformer w/ the suspension and extra power that brings it into the preformance spectrum.
If your tranny really is "slipping" then it will go soon anyways(check the color of your fluid), but I suspect your looking for more preformance than that model has to provide.

Sorry but I think anyone who knows even a little about cars would conclude that's a tranny/clutch prob.

What should I do then? The dealer is not going to replace my tranny. All they say is , is that is how it is?

Do they put a new one or is it refurbished?

Dude if its really that bad, then take them on a ride and show it to them...then they will replace it. Mine also kinda hesitates for a second when I floor it at hwy speeds, I dont think that is bad at all. Other cars do this, its just an automatic transmission trying to figgure out what gear to shift to - no big deal.

It's the automatic transmission. Just use the sport shift, I always drive with it.
99 TLs are not that slow. I have one stock and I just blew away a heavily modded Audi A4 recently. You just need to know how to use the power.

I think we need to revisit the reason why we chose the TL. A little bit of "performance" does not make it a sports car. If you add on a mod to tweak the car a bit, then you MAY see some added juice, but the car still is a sedan.

Now I hope you don't get upset with me.

bring it into the acura service people, and have them look at it, it does sound like the tranny is going, even though you are told that its not, I just replaced my tranny, and before that I had the same problems, now its alot better,
btw
everyone do you replace the ecu when you replace your tranny? I didn't do it, and I feel like its not strong enough and i hear that you are supposed to b/c if you didn't it will damage the new tranny. Is that true? HOw much is the ECU box anyway, and can I replace myself?

I think that the tranny is not good, but I do not think that the dealer will change because I do not get enough power.

I got to be driving in reverse before they change that thing.

Another thing I know the car is not a sports car but can someone tell if there is any logic in my 91 legend being faster than my 99tl?

Did I buy a lemon or those everyone elses tl operate in the same way my tl does in the original post.?

I really need to know because I am considering selling the car. It runs smooth and everything and has low miles, but no power after 70mph. I did get it to 143mph but after a very long time.

alright. on your 4 spd auto where are the rpms at when you step on it at 70mph? around 3500rpm? i think thats why your not getting the pwr at that speed. with only 4 gears the "dead spots" between gears will be bigger(out of vtec range)

Damn dude, you are using some weird logic on the basis of possibly selling your car....not enough power after 70 mph??? Just floor the damn thing!!! I never have any problems when I do that, obviously I understand that the car is 3400 pounds and being pulled my a V6 - do you? If not then get a BMW M5 or a real sports car. This is a moderately sports sedan...not a 2 door rear wheel drive V8.

There are some "dead spots" like yield said cause we do have VTEC and the main power is in the high RPM's - so just get the engine there and you are all good. When Im on the hwy and want to get on it, just go to SS mode and drop it to 3rd and floor it!

alright. on your 4 spd auto where are the rpms at when you step on it at 70mph? aroun

Thanks for the input guys, I just needed to know if it was just my car with the last of power after 70mph.

I will have to check and make a note of where the rpms are.

I just need for you to clarify on this. Do you need to know where the rpms are before i hit pedal to the floor or where are the rpms are when I shift from 3-4gear (assuming I am in SS)

If you want faster acceleration, use the SS. Drop it down to 2nd or 3rd (depending on how fast you're going originally) then floor it. Just before it red lines, shift. Don't make it bounce off the red line. When in 4th gear and you floor it, you won't get that "kick". Too bad you don't have a 5th gear. If you're not satisfied. Get headers.
