Is it normal for tran to slowly engage?
Newb here and after posting about trans and reading pages and pages of tranny problems, I was wondering if it is normal. My 2002 had a rebuilt tranny with less then 5000 miles on it when I bought it last week. It runs great shifts fine with all gears. But now I am wondering if this is a potential problem. REgardless if its a cold start or warm, when I shift from P to D5 or Reverse into D5, it takes about a full second to engage. Is that normal?

Are you sure its a second? a second doesn't sound slow by any means.. Now if you said 2 seconds that might feel slow or un-responsive but the gear should engage well between a second or less.

Ok maybe more then a second but less then 2 and I don't dare touch the gas pedal until I feel the tyranny slip into gear. It's not a loud clunk into gear by no means and the revs do not pick up. Glad to hear Im not alone.

Sounds like you might wanna clean those solenoids screens because a slow engaging trans doesn't equal "OLD" a trans should shift and function the same its entire useful life, These MACHINES don't get lazy they break down or get dirty/clogged..

It's normally a bit slow. Doesn't sound too abnormal to me.
