is this normal...

02 tl-s (automatic)

when shifting to reverse from drive-neutral-reverse, do you need a 3-5 second gap? i was in my driveway tonight and id put it into reverse, wait until you feel it shift, then i would gas it and then cluck, as if i was hitting a wall.

i must of duplicated it 5 times if i didnt wait atleast 3--5 seconds.

i think my tranny is starting to fail. only had it 3 months now.

thanks,

mr_min

Delayed reverse engagement is one of the symptoms of a failing transmission.

You should have the dealership check it out right away. Good luck and be safe.

Mine does the same thing, especially if the car is cold.

You can prolong the inevitable if you always make sure you are at a standstill before switching gears, and wait until it engages before you gas it.

There was always a slight hesitation between switching gears in these cars, which is normal operation, its when the switching become more harsh, pronounced and delayed you know it's bad news.

hey,

i was at a standstill. i was in my driveway - pulled up, stopped drive-nuetral-reverse and then felt it switch gears - then gased it and had the problem.

i was able to do it 5 times in about 2 minutes.

i finally brought the car in today to the dealer. im having another tranny problem.

when driving, it will stop going and just race rpms - after a few second about 5 or so, it will kick back it.

thanks
