Noise when reverse is engaged

When I put the car ('02 TLS) in reverse when the car has been sitting for a long time or after when I have been driving for a while there is a noise from the under the car. It is not the pump from the ABS, I hear that too. The noise is a kind of 'rrrump' half a second long and not muted. It does not occur immediately but after 6 feet or so. Does anyone else get this noise?

Should I expect the eventual demise of my tranny? I would appreciate any input on this possible problem.

Many Thanks
James

Get it checked out from the dealer. In the 02 the side mirrors adjust down with a light humm that can barely be heard with the windows up. that's the only thing I hear.

I have the same thing. sounds like a pump bleeding or loading up some air.
