Noise can not be fixed by Acura
I bring the car in today for engine area noise when the car is idling. Acura told me it's the cannister purge valve that make the noise after the car is warmed up. They told me this problem or part is on every TL, RSX, and MDX. There are no replacement part now. I wonder how the *&%$ long I have to wait till Acura redesign or find a replacement part.
noise noise noise....

if I had the music off, I will also hear it from the inside.
they said the noise is above normal, but the car still function correctly

Hmm...I was told by people here that it was the idler pully...when I brought mine in I was told it couldn't be fixed either. Just sounds like "whirr whirr whirr" in a repetitive beat like a belt or something...I'm a little pissed myself...lemme know what happens with you

Don't feel bad, I too have complained numerous times to the dealer about "excessive engine noise" when the vehicle is @ NOT (normal operating temp) at idle. It sounds like valve clatter. I really notice it when waiting at Tim Horton's drive thru waiting for a fresh cup of joe!
Actually its when the radio is off, idling in gear, window down, car is next to something sounds reflective (i.e. the side of a brick building.)
This pisses me off, big time. No way in hell should this car sound like an 85 Z car that needs a valve adjustment in the worst way!!!
Anyone else that notices this please post a response (no need to ellaborate, just "me too" would be fine.) I'd like to take this post with me next time I'm at the dealer for service.
TIA - Jim

If the noise seems to be coming from the firewall area on the drivers side, check the purge solenoid mount. It is rubber and has 3 slits in it. The slit on one side fits over the bracket on the fireall and the slit on the other side fits on the solenoid. The slit in the middle is supposed to be empty. Sometimes, it gets mounted wrong and the bracket is in the middle slit and you get noise. If thats the case, just take it out and install it correctly- no more noise!

My dealer told me the samething. They said its a valve basically opening and closing that make that sound.I think this valve is located to the right corner of the engine, looking at the engine straight on.I dont really hear it anymore.

WayneG -
If we're talking about the Evap canister purge valve right behind the brake master cylinder fluid resiviour, then it looks to me that the rubber mount only has two slots. One for the bracket, one for the valve. It's a ***** to get to! Looks o.k., but I'll have to try and dismount later tonight (late for work right now!!!!!)

well, when I first bought the car, I did hear that click sound but right now seems like i have not heard. I usually hear that sound in the morning times only. But not anymore, I did add Pennzoil, GUMOUT.. and after that car seems fine and no exhaust sound. Interesting but engine sounds pretty quieter than other cars. It seems my car is just good!

I was also told the clicking sound from the fuel purger thang is 100% normal. I did, however, have to get an AC pulley replaced that was binding and creating an even louder OTHER ticking sound in my engine bay.
However the fuel thing ticking sound is still kinda pathetic for a "luxury" car. But it's not something they can fix.
edit - oh, I drive an '01 CL-S btw.

Both my Acura and Honda make this noise, that sounds like the tappets are in need of serious adjustment. This is normal, and I can only hear it when the hood is open.
