Newbie: Reset ECU after filter change?
Greetings. This is my first post.
I installed a drop-in K&N filter into my 2002 TL Type S and I was wondering if the ECU needs to be reset. Truth be told, I don't really notice anything different with the new K&N for better or worse so I'm thinking it's because the ECU hasn't adjusted yet. Power and engine sound seem the same and gas mileage I won't know about for a while. I just did this 2 days ago so it may not be long enough for a change to occur by the ECU. I've read two conflicting theories: 1. Do nothing, the ECU will figure it out. 2. Reset the ECU because it still retains the old air/fuel information in memory.
I hesitate to reset the ECU because of radio codes and it having to relearn other stuff. My car is running great and I don't want to mess that up. Maybe it's not as big a deal as I'm making it out to be so I thought I would ask you guys.
Thanks

If you think a new K&N air filter is going to add 5-10hp (or anything signifcant), don't hold your breath! A ECU reset is not needed, and the most you should expect is a lil gain in mpg due to the better airflow.

Thanks for the info, mates. Yeah, I knew the K&N is a minor performance improvement if any. I'll keep the ECU reset in my back pocket for later. Any truth that if you regularly mash your gas after ECU reset, it learns that driving style and provides better performance overall?

remove the lower intake resonator box to give the K&N a good supply of fresh air
If a model with fake foglight openings- like my 01- cut the driver side opening and get max cubic volume of air for the engine to draw from
I would clean the TB plate for sure and probably seafoam it to be certain all is well
