Post Newbie Mod Question

I just picked up my 2001 Silver w/Navi last Friday. The purchase was made in large part to all of the information I've been soaking up from all of you posters. Props to all of you.

No sooner than the day after signing my credit union loan papers am I already considering mods. In particular, I am thinking about: (1) Comptech springs; (2) Comptech Sways; (3) 5Zigen Heidfeld 17s; (4) Either Bridgestone RE730s or Pirelli P7000s (either 225/45 or 215/50).

My first question, does anybody foresee any problems with tire rub? Does anyone have this exact setup (17" Heidfelds and Comptech springs)?

Also, does anyone know of a dependable and fair shop in L.A./S.F. Valley for install of the springs/sways and alignment?

Again, thanks to all of you on this board for your past and future help.

The 17" Heidfelds are available in +48 offset. You should be ok even with Comptech springs and 225 series tires.

Personally, 19"'s are pretty much the standard these days. But then again, it's all about the budget...

I just slapped on some 19" Tantrums & Nitto 225/35/19, HR springs. No rubs so far!

Those are the exact mods I am putting on this month. I went with the RE-730. I've researched it all and the Heidfelds will not rub with 225/45-17 and comptech springs. Not sure if the 17" have a polished lip, though. Anyone know?

I'll post pics if I get it done before you.
Do the same, aight?

Tires... That would be my very first mod whether you go to an aftermarket rim or not the tires would be a huge improvement.... Personally I am considering Bridgestone S-02's or Michelin Pilot Sports.

It sounds like you will beat me. I haven't even ordered mine yet. But when I get them, and if I can borrow a digital camera, I'll post them. Good luck with your mods.

One last question, does anyone have a preference between RE730s and P7000s? Tread life is a factor for me.

The RE730's are awesome tires. I have no complaints with them at all. They have a super stiff sidewall and increase the handling of the car significantly.

Whatever you do, make sure you email Tim/Snook here at info@autocarparts.com to order you wheels/tires. He will match any price you get from Tirerack. I bought my wheels/tires from Tim and he is the man. Unbelievable customer service.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I plan on ordering rims, tires, springs, sways, all at once. I just wanted to confirm with him that he can get me the RE730s or the P7000s (probably the RE730s) at Tirerack prices. At his prices, without having to pay CA sales taxes, I don't think he can be beat!

I paid $28,900 for a silver w/navi and a factory spoiler. I'm getting the parts for whatever they cost on this board through Snook.

I tried three separate offers for a silver w/navi through Priceline.com. The first was for $28,000 ($28,017 is dealer invoice). No one accepted, but I received a counteroffer for $28,500. I countered back and forth, and could have gotten it for $28,900 w/spoiler then, but I thought I could do better so I held off.

My second offer was for $28,100. Again, no one accepted, but I received a counter for $28,500. I didn't accpet.

On both of those offers, I said I could not pick up the car for at least a week.

Finally, I sold my car, so I made an offer for $28,317 and said I would be willing to buy the car the next day. Acura of the Desert (in Cathedral City) accepted my offer. However, since they were not within the geographical area I originally designated, they agreed to deliver the car to my house. Also, because they didn't have my color in stock, they wound up picking one up from Cerritos Acura and delivering it from there. Once they accepted my offer, I had them add on the spoiler. He gave me a slight discount on that.

I highly recommend at least trying Priceline.com. You can make an offer for a ridiculously low amount, and the worst they can do is come back with a counteroffer. And if you are willing to buy the car immediately, I think you can wind up with an excellent deal. At least you know in So. Cal. that you might be able to get only $300 over invoice.

P.S. Cerritos Acura mounts the front license plate holder with screws below the bumper. Very easy to remove without any marks. Also easy to put back on if you get cited. I've read that some dealers drill holes in the bumpers to mount the front license plate. What idiots.
