Thumbs up New TL Owner, Pics and ??'s

Just brought home my 2000 Monterey Blue Pearl TL with Racing Hart C2's and Neuspeed Springs.

I have been looking at the forum gaining info for awhile, so thanks everyone.

1. Anyone know where to get floormats for a good price?
2. Thoughts on getting bird crap off paint that has been there awhile.
3. I can get an extended warranty from AAA for 36 months/36000 for $1,400 bumper to bumper, worth it?
4. Any other advice for keeping the new TL looking and running good?

Thanks

how are those springs? I think ur the first one to have them. Congrats on ur purchasE! As for paint protection, you may want to give your car a thorough cleaning.....IE wash with dawn soap, claybar the car, wash again with dawn soap, apply wax, buff....do a search for washing tips...u'll find plenty...

Welcome
1. You can buy floormats at your local auto. shop (eg. Pepboys, Autozone, etc.)
2. Give your car a nice wash with some dishwashing detergent to get off the previous layer of wax (if any). After that, I would suggest you use mothers 3-step claybar process. Do a search for it...you'll find numerous threads on it.
3. Sorry, can't help you here. I bought an extended warranty/100k for my '99 TL-P for about that price.
4. Don't drive it hard and wash it once a week.

Thanks for the carwashing advice. Never heard of Claybar until I started looking at the forum.

The springs seem pretty solid and don't sway much even in corners.

It will take some time to adjust to being so low to the ground. I am used to driving the Navigator, which just became the Mrs. car.

Dasch,

What size of tires did you get to match with the 18" C2 Evo rims?

Thanks,
Justin

Birdcrap - I am guessing you have stains from the Crap, right? Your going to need a compound to get them out as they have they have stained and possibly etched the clear coat. I would suggest 3M Perfect It II Rubbing Compound (clear coat safe). Use a terry cloth applicator (towel or pad) as terry cloth is more aggresive than foam. Get the terry cloth damp (wet it then wring it out good so damp but not dripping). Apply the compound on the stain (a little goes a long way - the more you put on the more you have to work to get it off so less is more!). Use the terry cloth to work it over the stain and surrounding area. DO NOT GO in CIRCULAR motion - you don't want swirls! Best way to do it is imagine a 6" x 6" square around the crap stain. Go up and down in a straight line, then back and fourth in straight line...and so on. Work it in as many directions as you can but always in a straight line (use medium pressue but don't push down to hard). Work the compound until it is dry and starting to come off. Then take a clean terry towel or microfiber towel (even better!) and wipe it off. Inspect it, is it gone or if not does it at least look a lot better? If it is not gone, try it again, repeating the same steps above. If the finish in that 6"x6" area is dull now, don't panic - you need to follow up a rubbing compound with a polish (not a wax) to restore the shine. If you just cannot get it out, then consider a professional detailer. A full car can be done for about 100-140 bucks (at least in my area). If you do go to a professional detailer, talk to them first, ask then what products they use, how they will address the stains and if they guarantee NO SWIRL MARKS! (last one is important). Good luck man - for the floor mats, check the links above I think there is a site linked here where you can buy OEM acura parts including the floor mats.

For floor mats I got mine from:

Acura Of Bellevue
13424 Ne 20th St
Bellevue, WA 98005-2025
(425)644-3000

Mon-Fri 8:30AM-8:00PM
Sat 9:00AM-7:00PM
Sun 11:00AM-5:00PM

I got the All Season ones for about $42 shipped to Cincinnati. It took a week or two to get here but saving that amount of money was worth it.

They have a web site for internet sales of parts but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

jbooggs619 - The tires are 225/40/18

growbuck - I tried the compound, it took out the scratches, but small flecks of paint are missing (This was probably the problem before), there are also spider veins in spots of the paint. I am getting some touch up paint and will see if that works.

Of couse my wife can't see any of this and says I am crazy.

Ooooooooo sexy back shot :hitit: You should finish tinting the car, unless you like it like that so you don't get rolled. So what you plan on doing next???

Thanks for the comments. I got it tinted yesterday.

Not sure what I am going to do next, probably something simple like a K&N Filter. I have also been thinking about white or indiglo gauges.

I keep telling myself that I need to pace myself on the mods, but that never seems to work.

Congrats on the purchase! Not too many Montereys out there! Those rims look fantastic.

I just bought my car a few months ago and I have the EXACT same paint flaws - bird crap stains and some tiny spider web looking blemishes. Please tell me if you find any techniques that work to remove these so I can use them myself!

"...4. Any other advice for keeping the new TL looking and running good?"

Not only "just" frequent oil changes, but add Cheveron's Techron everytime, it's like "vitamine" for you car

Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner is unbeatable in cleaning the entire fuel system and restoring lost power and performance caused by deposit build-up.

...I notice the difference almost right away, after the first tank... your car WILL run smoother.

59,000 miles

Yes, I bought it from Michaels' s Auto. I live a few blocks from them, downtown. I found it to be much easier than negotiating with the big dealership.

Almost bought one from the Infiniti Dealer off I-4, but it was ridiculous going back and forth, meeting the finance manager, salesman, then used car manager. Then when we got close on price they inform me about a $400 dealer fee. I left and bought the TL the next day.

Also got my financing through eloan.com, got a good rate with approval in an hour.

i bought from there 3 months ago, got em to go realll low
99 Black 67kmiles, spoiler, for $13,500, $14.5 out the door,, cuz when i first drove it, it wasn't downshiftin properly, so he said it was the motor mount he changed it and it was running fine until about 2 weeks ago, my tranny was slippin and wasn't shiftin to 2nd or 3rd, so i took it to acura and they kept it for about 2 or 3 days and got a new tranny runs a lotttttttttttt smoother now, hope u dont get tranny probs, if u see or feel any probs take it there rite away the Fountain acura next to the FL mall treated me well i recommend them if any thing happens, good luck, congrats on ur TL, i live near the FL mall, lol hope to see u around at a red light sometime to race, lol jk

I paid $14,500 out the door for $15,500. It came with the Racing Hart C2 18's and the neuspeed springs. They brought it to Fountain for a check up and had the tranny replaced a few weeks ago.

I was happy with the peoplem there, and it was a smooth transaction.

Got any pic's of your TL?

It has 58k miles on it. I am currently looking at getting some new tips.

Spent all of yesterday, waxing, clay barring, polishing. Of course last night is rained and it now has spots all over.

Just added 3A slant 3.5 Racing Tips. I had the 4" one on for about a day, alittle too big for my liking.
