Did you consider getting some new rims to add some more distinction to your car? Maybe some 17"s?

nah, if I do so, I don't have much money left for performance mods since the bigger the rims I get, the slower the car becomes. So I just got new tires. Plus I don't have money for good rims

dude, it was weird, we have snow and ice on the streets, and I was in the neighbor hood, I hit like a huge ice cube, both tires on the left side blow up, but I didn't hear it and since I was almost home, didn't feel shit. Found that out on Sunday, got it changed today, but it's worth it, the new tires are awesome.

Great choice Red Hot! I love the Goodyear brands. Sorry 2 hear about the flats, but got new tires instead! I know the feeling about tires. I hit a BAD pot hole last week, & had 2 replace one tire this W.E. THe Grand Spirit Aqua-Flows are the same as the Goodyear Aqua-Treads. Alot different ride & control than those stock tires, aren't they!

yeah, it works fine, there are several other members riding with 225/55/16 also. I'm planning on lowering the car in summer. if you want to replace, go for 225/55/16, they change the look on TL, it's awesome, really!

I have 225/55/16 Bridgestone Pole Position 2 Z rated tires on my TL for the summer. They are absolutely awesome with no rubbing or other problems. Even my winter tires BLizzak LM-22 215/55/16 are better than the stock tires.

Go for it in the spring - just be prepared to lay out more $$$ for winter tires. The Z rated tires can't be used on snow and I couldn't find a decent all season.

Did you check out Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 225/55-ZR16 All seasons ? These are ultra-high performance all-seasons. I have them on my factory wheels. Or you could save a bundle and go for Michelin Pilot XGT H4s in the same size, which are also all-seasons.

Red Hot, I meant that I was debating on whether or not I should do the same. My very first post was on the issue of 225/55/16 tires on stock rims. I would love to do it, but the cheddar can only go in so many directions...

I looked at the Michelins but I have never really been crazy about the brand. The TL stock tires are poor and I have had poor wear with other Michelin tires on other cars I've had.

Besides, a client of mine is a Bridgestone dealer and I got a really good deal. I still haven't even paid him for my winter tires I have had since November. Heck, I haven't even paid him yet for installing my headers/exhaust and intake back in October.

Better get round to that soon.

The stock touring energy tires are a good compromise since they provide a soft and quite ride with very good mileage due to their low-friction nature. Incidentally, these are the same tires that come standard on the Lexus ES300.

The Michelin Pilots on the other hand, stand among the best tires for performance, but are a bit more expensive than the other brands around. The other brands benchmark their performance tires on the Pilots from Michelin. The poor wear you speak about may have been dependent on the specific model from Michelin. In fact, the Integras too employ Michelins, which are commonly rated as poor tires (too many compromises for what they achieve) both for traction in the wet and the dry. The situation does not apply to all Michelin tire models.

one more thing, the best mod you can do for TL is to change the tires! If you want better traction in dry/wet/snow/ice condition, better handling, better looking, go for the tires first!

I love the Aqua-Flows. They are all season radials. They are great for cornering, snow, handling. I posted this subject awhile back & said to someone that the tires were a major upgrade / improvement & well worth it!
Mine were only avail. in 225/50/16's, so the spedo is a little off, but I don't care! The improvements are well worth the trade off. I know your going 2 love them more & more. Enjoy!

yeah, I wanted 225/55/16, and then I chose the Eagle HP Ultra Plus from all the tires with that size because it was on sale, z-rated, kinda all season, and the tread looks kewl. They had Aqua Tread, too, but not this size, so... anyways, once again, it's awesome.

All season tires, no matter how good, are always a compromise. Even if they are Z-rated. If you don't want to use two sets of wheels/tires for whatever reason, the compromise is OK.

Your best snow/ice tires are Q rated. There are also H rated ones, but they give up ice traction. When you drive the Q rated tires, don't go over 100 MPH.

Also, you don't want to go wider in the winter. Keep with 205's no matter what you do for winter.

Agreed with you on all counts !! The compounds that enhance grip in summer act in the reverse way in winter (snow or ice). Also, in summer, a wider contact patch betters overall grip, while in winter it enhances the contact patch for greater slippage. So it is always a challenge for tire manufacturers to design an effective all-season tire. On top of it, due to their design challenges, all-seasons are noisier.

But then again, if one wants the same tire to do year-round duty, then one has to compromise a bit....

yelp! I thought about the same thing Einstein said because there was a similar topic on both the advantage and disadvantage on wider, all season, z-rated tires in winter (especially snow) long time ago.
