New shocks and a control arm, ride still bumpy

I am confuse, so yesterday I changed my front shocks and a bad upper control arm on one side. 114,000 miles on the original shocks! Guess I was a little over due, but I thought for sure I would have felt a big difference,,,, not really though? Am i missing something ?

Check your ball joints at the front if you say it 'rumbles', mine does rumble on bumps and when I changed my rotors/pads this past weekend I noticed that when you push the wheel it actually rocks (perpendicular/vertical tilt) and the joint up there is where there is free play (sort-of) so they told me i need to get new front ball joints. I am still to do that, but will probably combine it with shocks too. I have 171k on it. It's a 99TL-P and I am considering the KYB GR-2 SHOCKS, any ideas...just need comfort without much sacrifice to handling. Thanks!

instead of changing the upper ball joint I did the whole upper control arm, it was a piece of cake, like 20 minutes, and only 3 bolts. I found them online at some place MAC auto parts for $60 for the control arm with the ball joint already pressed in. The rocking you speak of is not good, that is your ball joint and can be bad if it goes. For the $60 and 20 minutes I would get it done quick.

I recently put on Yoko Avids and am still trying to determine if the ride is worse due to the tires or if they are still not aligned. I have been back once already to fix the balancing and going back for a 3rd time next week. Steering will vibrating much more than with the stock Michelins, and I feel a pretty strong vibration in the seat so I think something with the rear wheels/tires is amiss as well. If the Avid's just ride that much harsher than the Michelins, I honestly might have to replace them. I bought the TL-P (over the TL-S) for the smoother ride, and I am not getting it currently.

Yeah I dont anyting about the KYB's myself, I just grabbed regular Monroe's because I dont plan on keeping the car long enough to put something really good in. Are the KYB's supposed to be good? Do others have bad/good experiences with them?

You could drop in some Koni shocks on the cheaper end or Tokiko is better
That will give better than stock ride without race car harshness
The KYB should be marked Kills Your Back

Mhh, I had read some reviews over the web and the KYB-GR2s were supposed to give a quality ride like OEM or even better...also, some peers on this site in the suspension forum who have them installed kinda concur...
https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/good-month-geeks-153347/ but it's still up for debate I guess...as always, thanks for the input guys!! By the time I go buy I'm sure I would have made up my mind on whats good for my budget and ride. Thanks!!
