New project underway: 99TL w/TypeS intake manifold
Not aware that this has been attempted before...
Purchased it on the black market from another member. Need to order a few parts, bypass valve actuator and an rpm switch but then it's full steam ahead.
Once I get it installed and tested, the car is going to get dyno tuned. I've had my VAFC installed for over year and now I finally feel like I've done enough mods to get it tuned.
I already have a TypeS throttle body so the only piece left is a TypeS CAI.
Updates soon.

VAFC: Air and fuel, VTEC engagement point
I expect to see a nice low-end gain. How much? I've read the Accord owners see a decent increase.
And the TLS is not that different from the TLP. Intake tract is a big part of the power gain and that's my goal.

Yeah i have been wanting to do this for sometime now, but I haven't really read up on it. Are you going to post a DIY when your finish with this? I would really like to know what pieces I would need to put this whole thing together! Thnx

post pics of both of them side by side, I would just like to see the difference. Also, do you need the 2 stage intake system that the type s uses to make this all work? I mean that other throttle body looking piece.

DIY will be coming. The only thing tricky is figuring out when to open the 2nd stage. Everything else is simple bolt-ons.
Oh that and making sure I can close my hood.

Didn't they raise the hood level along with the front facelift on the '02s?
My brother had an 00 TL and I could swear they increased the hood clearance on my '02 TL-S.

That's what I'm thinking. Only one way to find out.

Bought the TB from a junkyard on the web. Paid $125 shipped.
Bought the IM from a member of the board. I still need to buy a few parts, BVA and gaskets. Will probably cost me ~$300 for everything.

You gonna tune your VAFC after you get the manifold installed? Would probably be a good time and I'm sure there is some power to be gained considering your cramming more air into the chamber.

Also there is a guy with TL-S heads with 30k miles whos trying to sell them. Hes letting go for a decent price too (about 2.5x what you paid for the Mani). Would definetly give some decent gains.

Interesting. THe lower part of the intake manifold (or injector base) Is the same between the CL and CL-S, yet different between a TL-S and CL-S. The TL-S is also different from the regular TL base and obviously different from the 99 TL base.

I also bougt a set of gaskets thet went between the upper and lower manifolds for the pilot and ody (which had different part #s and they matched up with our lower mani gaskets
Hopefully I can find some time to get this installed. Still need to order the bypass valve and an rpm switch.

Another difference is the funnels that are inside the front and rear chamber. They seem to be much wider on the MDX.
I think while I have the CLS IM off the car, I'm going to do a little polishing of the runners.
Oh that and taking car of my 2 yr old and my wife that is due with our 2nd the end of December.
I'll see if I can do a test fit this weekend.
