New Owner Checking In....

Hey--

I just picked up a 2003 TL today, Black, 29,000miles. Other than the stock wheels having some curb rash on them from the previous owner, it seems to be in great shape. I pick her up tomorrow night.

Just a bit on me.

38, NY, Honda driver my entire life.

Cars I have had

1986 Prelude Si
1992 Accord Ex
2000 Prelude Base
2001 Maxima ( rear ended while at a red light, RIP, she was great)

and I currently have an 87Prelude Si as my play car.

and now I move up to the Acura TL. Can't wait.

Im not going to ask any typical noob questions---Ill check all the stickies which Im sure have all the info I need.

I test drove an 03 Type S and then the regular one--I like the type S better, but there arent too many of them around so when I found a regular TL with only 29k, I jumped on that guy.

Pics to follow in the coming week. With winter here, I leave to work in the dark and come home in the dark.

Before you buy:
See if the car has the factory court ordered extended warranty coverage on the trans-
call acura and ask about its history- 1-800-382-2238 x5
Some 03s also got a free water pump- ask for any recall info when you call acura
Why such low mileage?
Is it a salvage title car by chance? those have no warranty whatsoever on any part of the car

Only 29k, that's awesome. You should check the VIN with Acura to see if your covered on the transmission warranty since you have an 03. Oh and welcome to AZ!

Congrats. Nice list of cars. I had a 88 si, it was a blast. I was putting north of 300 whp hp out of it. It became my play/track car(till i drove it into a tire barrier at 90ish) .

Congrats on the new ride! You're not getting rid of the Lude are you? I had a 97 Lude when I got my 03 CL-S and couldn't part with it so it is officially the winter beater at this point.

It's a lot of fun having both, the Lude makes you appreciate the power of the Acura, and the Acura makes you appreciate the light weight tossability of the lude, and your 2nd gen is a lot lighter than my 5th gen.

I will never get rid of my 87 Lude ( much to the wifes disappointment). When I have time, Im going to do the body work and have it painted to have her look as good as she runs.

Paint is just a strong point of honda's.

damn...
A 03 tl with only 29K mile.
That's awesome, dude.
Go trough the search button, there have a few things you can do cheap or even free to your car.
Like the fog lights mod, intake resonator removal, exhaust resonator removal (made the car sound kind like the G35), clear the headlights.
oh ya..., welcome to the family.
This is a great website, you can learn alot of things on this website.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the great find. Since you arent new to the scene, or honda's I'm sure you will do all the basic checks, and fluid changes. Be sure to change out the cabin air filter as well. Search for "cabin air filter" on here and there is a great easy DIY. It greatly improves the performance of your heat/AC. Can't wait to see the pics.

Im feeling all fuzzy from the love Im getting here..

I leave when its dark for work and get home when its dark so I haven't had any time for pics. Ill take care of that Saturday for you guys. Ill certainly check out all the links for the scoop on the car.

I only drove her about 30 miles so far, but here are my quick thoughts.

1. Nice ride.
2. Stereo is basic, I actually thought it would be a little better, but I have a 50x4 amp Im going to toss in. Is the head unit decent---so I can keep it?

3.Not sure what people put in that dumb compartment above the radio. Deck of cards? anyone up for some hold em?

4. would have expected 17's not 16's

Is your headunit a 6-disc changer? If it isn't, you have a 1999-2001 headunit, which is a single disc headunit, and they are notorious for not being able to play burned CDs. If you do have a 6-disc, I'm surprised you are having trouble. Maybe try to burn your CDs at 8x or 12x and see if that helps.

17's come with the TL type S. 16's look small until you slam the car. The CD player issue has to do with the speed you burn your discs at and the thickness of the disk. I've had burned CD's not play in my 6 disc in-dash and have had them get caught. It's a non issue in the newer Acura's though. I personally like that theres a tape desk since I haven't gotten around to installing an iPod adapter, you just use a regular old school CD player to tape deck conveter. And yeah lot's of love on Acurazine! Best forum around.

I can't wait till there's a nice day to wash and wax. I just conditioned my leather and used 303 protectant on all the vinyl. It's too damn cold outside though. The NE blows!
