I just read the story on the new 260hp 2002 Infinity I35 (http://www.auto.com/industry/infin13_20010413.htm). More competition for TL-S. And if you read in the story they also said new 2002 Altima will have 240hp V-6.

Cars like computers just get better and cheaper with time!

Not to dis on Honda, but Nissan is smart enough to place a manual in there performance sedans. The new Maxima will come with at least a 5-speed manual, possibly a 6-speed taken from the new Z. Not to mention that the new altima 3.5 SE can be had with a 5-speed and a 6.3 0-60 time. In other words, I like my TL, but damn Nissan has a fine line-up in the wings. The 3.5 litre V6 is pentrating a good portion of their line-up. Not to mention the 180-hp 2.5 litre 4-banger that promises to be torquey, and potent, both in the new Altima and the Sentra SE-R.

I love news like this!

More good cars means... more good cars! One company's success with a great product inspires its competitors to make even better cars.

I saw the picture of the new Nissan Altima (I think?) in Autoweek yesterday. It looks and sounds great! Just wait until Toyota and Honda respond to that!

No, you're on a TL board!!

Seriously, there's been a lot of talk lately about Nissan (Altima and Maxima) that I think most people are just ignoring topics on it. You can only discuss the same thing so many times.....

I was wondering the same thing ... they clearly have a solid product line. Perhaps not bestsellers in the tradition of a Camry or Accord but not too far behind. Maybe their fortunes will turn around w/ the introduction of their ’02 line. I hope they do something about the Maxima’s butt it has to be one of the ugliest out there.

I will be looking to buy another car in several years down the road & more competition the better

Maxima is in same class as accord and camry but if you add the options to them it's close to 28k. no accord and camry will be that much with the options.
Most people probably think if they are gonna spend 28k on maxima, (not that it's a bad car). but they would probably spend 2k and get near luxury car.

Take it easy guys... Honda/Acura has much more up it's sleeves. Think about it. The NSX was getting 290+ HP out of a 3.2L V6 for years. As soon as the apply the iVTEC treatment to the V6 range and move the RL/NSX to the new V8 Nissan/Infinity/Lexus and maybe even BMW will be playing catch up.

K, i'll try to be nice......You can easily option a Camry up to $28K, $29K without a fricking V6! Don't believe me, go to toyota.com. The Maxima is considered an excellent value. Especially considering you can easily get a GXE with auto for $20K flat. I know someone locally who got a GXE manual, with all the options he wanted for $19.5K.

If you want to see the new I35 or the Altima in it's full glory, go to www.nissannews.com very nice sized pictures there, just wish other cars had such loyal followings, and such high-rez pics :

No exterior changes til 2003. You probably won't see it for another year. 2002 is the one with bigger engine.

Well, I think the president of Nissan put it best: "Nissan rather be everything for somebody instead of something for everybody." Look at the bland style of Accord/Camry/TL have been, Nissan has breath in some fresh air to the automobile market. And Japanese seems to agree, putting them @ #2.

Now it's for the North America assult. 10 new models within the next 2 years. It's time to welcome back Nissan. Honda and Toyota better watch out!

I personally think Nissan is doing a HELL of a job busting out with a revamped lineup and marketing their stuff quite nicely too.

Atomix,

Thanks for that website for the new I35, man I wish Honda/Acura provided that much insight and support for their upcoming models. I remember I couldn't get anything from them before the new Type S came out and this website was the single best source for the latest and greatest info.

The I35 looks sweet, too bad their is only one Infinity in my area and it's quite a trek. People often say, who drives an Infinity these days and I'd have to say a lot more will after the this new I35 and Q are offerred. They are doing something right and still all made in Japan.

maximas are nice if you dont mind all the cheap materials. i bought both 96 maxima and 96 TL five years back and the maxima is definetely showing much more signs of aging while the TL is still solid and quiet and looks much better too.
