New Kind of Tranny Problem

Whenever I shift my car into park the transmission makes a loud bang noise. Its very loud, sounds like something is falling out of the car. Other than that I have noticed no strange shifting with the transmission. It happens everytime I put the car in park - I have an appointment for service next week. 12k miles...

Does it do it on flat surfaces or inclines only?

My know a few Acura's/Honda's make a clanging noise when the shift from park to reverse if they are on an incline only. If you are facing downhill and going from Drive to park it would be the same concept....pressure on the tranny when it engages or disengages taht wasn't there initially.

If it is doing this on flat surfaces, I would say you have a tranny problem as my Accord did that, before I had to replace my tranny. BTW, if you are being sarcastic, use a smilie, so we know you just kidding.

I never hear any noise going from Park to Drive. However, on a few occasion, I hear a noise when I go from Drive to Reverse. The noise is more like a "pop" and a "bang". And yes, I did this when the car has stopped completely on a flat surface.

The "pop" or "bang" from Park to Reverse is normal. It's the locking pawl disengaging from the ratchet in the tranny. The pawl prevents the car from rolling while in Park. Now when your car is parked on an incline, pressure is applied to one side of the pawl, and it pops when you retract it out of the ratchet.

However, a "bang" when you go into Park is definitely not normal. Better go get it checked.
