New IAC Valve

At 117K miles my 2001 Acura TL's IAC valve took a dump.

About 1 week ago the check engine light came on and the rev's were hunting up & down. I reset the computer and everything was fine for a week and the same thing happened. I had the code read at Autozone (P0505).

I decided to fix the cause of the problem this time and pick-up a new IAC valve at the Stealership. $153 bucks later and 45 minutes of my time and it's all better.

When I had the throttle body off I noticed a puddle of oil in the upper air manifold just past the throttle body. Some of the oil residue was evident on the lower part of the throttle body gasket. I cleaned up the oil and put everything back together.

The last time I noticed the oil was at 87K miles when I cleaned out the carbon in the upper & lower air mainfolds.

I was wondering if the oil shortend the life of my IAC valve. I suspect it didn't but it made me wonder anyway.

I had the same problem with mine, but I just took apart the throttle body and the IAC valve and cleaned everything. I thought I was going to have to buy a new one, but after cleaning it, it worked great.

I've read just as many posts that said that cleaning the AIC valve didn't work. I have saved my old one and will clean it up as a back-up. What has "worked" in the past was to reset the error code and usually it would be good for several months. The last time I did this it only lasted 1 week and I figured it was time to fix it.
