I have a 99 TL 3.2 with 200,000 miles just brought the car a week ago. I want to do a tune up and changed the valve cover gaskets. What's the best part for the car?

A lot of the guys are using NGK Iridium plugs to replace the OEM ones, apparently they are less expensive and better than OEM. But look for OEM on the rest of your parts first.

A tune Up in my opinion is and old term reserved for older cars with plugs caps and wires. Our cars have very reliable coil packs.

Before changing out the spark plugs run a 1/2 can of seafoam through the vacuum line or 2 cans in the gas tank, to clean up any carbon deposits. Also check the egr ports and egr valve for any carbon build up.

These cars get a whole hell of a lot tougher with the right maintenance. Acurazine equals a ton of info.

Also check the DIY section at the top of the home page.

WELCOME!

Welcome to the forum. I had a 99 with 455k original miles. I agree with using OEM parts as much as you can. Post some pictures up.

Adjust Valves while you are at the gaskets... You need to remove the spark plugs to adjust the valves anyway so its a nice Trifecta of maintenance.

Valve job is back braking work but well worth it once you are finished. Mine took about 4 hours but took a break in the middle somewhere for some din.

Do half the job the night before by removing everything, incl plugs. Let sit overnight, as valves must be stone cold to adjust. Adjust next day and put it all back together w new plugs and seals and stuff.

I'm psyching myself up for this, can you tell? Might make myself a platform to save my poor back...
