New to the Forum

Hey all,

My name is Danny and I just bought myself a 2003 TL Type-S with a bad tranny (it was too cheap to pass up). It has roughly 92xxx miles with minor scrapes on the front and rear bumpers. I will take it into the shop soon to get another tranny.

In terms of future mods, I was just thinking minor mods such as rims, black housing headlights, and maybe a lip kit. Due to the amount of snow and the abundance of rocks on the road, I don't really want to drop the car (living in Colorado sucks at times).

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope to learn a lot in this forum. Thanks for reading.

rims and a lip kit will not look good with no drop.. might as well leave it stock in appearance

many users here on the forums live in the same climate... a mild drop is better than none at all...

no drop and a lipkit look better then no drop and no lipkit, and if you change your mind about a drop in the future, even better

let the guy get a working trans!~!

Make sure you are covered VIN- late 03 are not- call 1-800-382-2238 x5 register as the new owner and ask
Also ask if any open recalls- some 03s get a free timing belt job- you pay to add water pump and thats most of the 105 service for cheap!

Welcome to AZ! Great to see more Coloradans on the site.

When you say the tranny is "bad" and a replacment is needed? Are you paying out of pocket beacuse i would check first with the VIN# and see if it stilll qualify for Acura's 7year/100k extended powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the reply guys. I already called Acura with the VIN and they told me that the original owner already had the free tranny replaced back in 04. I am putting money out of my own pocket to fix the tranny.

You can get a free timing belt replacement? I will have to look into that since I was planning to do that soon as well. Thanks for the tips. You guys are great.

Good with the tranny bro, how much did you pay for the car with the bad tranny? If you don't mind me asking.

It doesnt matter if the trans was replaced before- not limited to one!
and if done in 04 it was likely just the recall to install the external oil jet kit on the trans- not an actual trans replacement unless it was toasted already when they went to do the recall and replaced trans instead

You can tell by looking at the top of the trans for the part, and under the trans look at the main bolts- if the heads are painted blue its an acura replacement

The car is not limited to 1 replacement trans- there are some here got 2-3 -4 under warranty- as long as its still good on time and miles- and not `salvage` title-
get to dealer asap

some 03s got a recall timing belt pulley, that also came with a timing belt- you pay water pump and score big'
The 800 number should have looked up recall notices and told you if that applied
The dealer can do that for you too- look up anything about your car

You say you want to start out with minor mods, but trust me, once you start, it's hard to stop. LOL I remember I just wanted to drop. Got that done, then I was like, "Hmm..you know what? I think I wanna add cold air. Let's do it!" After that was completed, I turned to the exhausts. And as you know, one thing led to another, and another, and another lol. A couple of grand later, and a little maturing I guess you can say, I realized there are more important things in life. But anyway, don't let me deter you from modding the hell out of it lol it's your money and your life. Welcome to the site and watch out for cops!

I did call the 1-800 number and they told me I do not qualify for another tranny replacement. I also asked about the timing belt as well and they said the same. I'm not sure if I can harass them into getting me a free tranny replacement but I will take the car to the dealer just to see what happens. I've been reading up on the tranny thread and how to approach the "service manager." Well see how that goes tomorrow.

Haha, don't worry. I use to drive a 92 Honda Prelude and I am sure I put in at least $5000 into it. Those days are done as I realize the depreciation value of a car and it was not worth it. With bills to pay and a girlfriend, there's really no money left... you get my drift.
