Post New Altima challenge?

MT just had a blurb on the new Altima which will be out in September. It will be available with a 5-speed and a 180 HP 2.5 DOHC four, and the optional V6 is a derivative of the VQ series Maxima engine, with 240 HP and (get this!) 246 lb-ft. of twist!

The new suspension features an IRS derived from the Skyline. Interior will have brushed aluminum rather than cheesy fake wood.

The interior space will be greater than the current Maxima - wonder when the big discounts will begin on that car?

Of course, it won't have the luxo items of our cars, but still, that is a real move up for a car that has always been solid (my wife had one for many years) and arguably the best Nissan in their line.

240/246 I don't know if they gonna live up to these numbers...It's too much for an Altima. How much can they possibly charge for it so it wont interfere with the Maxima sales?

The new Altima does appear far improved over the current model. Watch for deep discounts on Maximas, it won't until 2003/4 that the Maxima gets its facelifts.

The new Altima is said be the car that will finally put Nissan over the top, hoping to take away sales from Camry and Accord. The Maxima will get 260 hp this fall along w/ a 6 speed manual so it will have a different target market than the Altima. Nissan is really doing some great things. I read that they were the only car manufacturer that inceased their 1st quarter sales this year over last.

My friend works at a Nissan/Infinity dealer and he said when the new Maxima comes out it will be almost as big as the Q45.
