New Accord puts down 195.9 whp!!
Just read the review & dyno results at Temple of VTEC and they reported the new Accord to have 195.9 wheel hp and even possibly another 15-20whp hidden when IHE are upgraded. What do you'll think about that?

I think that the next TL-S will be putting down an additional 20whp ..
I'm not surprised that a $23,000 Accord puts down that much hp, the Nissan Maxima auto puts down the same hp to the wheels, as does the altima...

Auto - It was a sedan.
The specs look real impressive. I'm anxious to see what Honda does to the TL's for 2004. Surely they will up the HP/Torque, but how much can you really go and still be front wheel drive?
From what I’m reading the TL-S still has better low-end torque to launch it, but the Accord may have better top end acceleration. It sure looks like it’s geared better for highway speed than ours.
Has anyone raced one yet??? I don’t see too many on the road yet.

Just to start off, I'm not a car expert. But I would like to know what is wheel horsepower. I know the new Accord V6 has 240-HP under the hood, but then what is 195.9 wheel hp? Is that alot of wheel hp or not based on the 240-HP the stock engine produces. Thanks...

Automatic trannies generally lose 20-25% of the available HP. So for example... a stock TL-S which puts out 260hp at the crank puts down between 190-200hp to the wheel (although I've seen a few pull between 200-205... but that's rare). So basically the new Accord and the 2002+ TL-S put out the same HP at the wheel. The torque is higher for the TL-S down low... so we should still have a slight advantage. For more detailed info... check this out: http://www.howstuffworks.com/horsepower.htm
As for the topic... I'm not surprised at all. No one should be. It's a brand new car, totally redesigned for 2003. It should be better then previous models.... even some Acura's. Once the 2004 TL comes out we will be back ahead. Oh and BTW... I saw on acl.com a few weeks ago that the manual V6 Accord was putting out 210 or so HP at the wheel which is only a little less then the CL-S 6-speed. I'll try to find the link.

the engine produces 240 peak hp...but most tuner's/shops don't have an engine dyno. THey measure the hp at the wheels. It is obviously easier to do it this way then to remove an engine to measure hp each time you make a modification or what not. And in actuality, a dyno measures torque, and then hp is computed. So in the case of this Accord, then engine puts out 240 hp...but by with all the gears and other moving parts transferring the power to the wheels, there is always a loss in power attributed to driveline compnents. So in the case of this accord, it looks to be in the neighborhood of 20%. This is the reason the manual tranny cars tend to be a little quicken than the same car with an auto tranny. Manual tranny's are more efficient getting power to the wheels. They have less drivetrain loss. So the accord v-6 6 speed ought to put more like 210-215 hp to the wheels.
200 whp is pretty damn good.

More power for sure to the new Accord...
TLP is 225 HP and V6 Acocrd is 240HP
Worse it the Accod is lighter then the TLP by 300 lbs.
TLP shoudl do 180 WHP and the new V6 Accord has 196 WHP so that like at least 0.5s in 1/4 miles if the TL_ does 15.7s the V6 accord should do 15.2s or 5 car length by 90 MPH!

I agree that gearing on the new Accord is much sweeter at highway speeds than the more conservative TL-S ..
I believe both engines produce the same fuel efficiency, so the Accord tranny is actually superior. I wonder if they can be swapped for the TL-S tranny.

I'm sorry, but this is just too funny for me. I'm used to seeing 300+ hp at the rear wheels of LS1-powered F-body and Corvette.
Not mocking anybody by any means. Just different ballpark, and I'm new to this forum. Just new to me. I've been on www.LS1.com/forums for too long.
<-- Still hasn't really put the hammer down on the TL-S yet. Damn break-in period.

The cool thing about the sports sedans is how multi talented they are...usually a good combination of smoothness, speed, handling, luxury, asthetics, reliability and comfort for most people. They are not pupose built cars, but they are great.

For the temple of vtec doing dyno's it is usually done by a guy named Shaun Church. He is a owner of a dynopack located in California. The dynopack which is what that website mainly uses can give a car about 10 more hp to the wheels because it does not suffer from the wheels or tire contact. The dynopack is a dyno that attaches to your hubs for more accuracy. But even the owner admits to the at least 10 hp gain. Dont always believe what you see. Just my $.02.
