I think if you check the labels on a HD or a cdrom it should show you which pins are which.
Yellow = +12V DC
Black = Ground
Black = Ground
Red = +5V DC
I think you would just connect a ground and the yellow wire to the car, I am not sure... Does anyone know?

Do you know what each of the 4 pin does?
Pin 4 = +12V
Pin 3 = Ground
Pin 2 = ??
Pin 1 = ??
What actually makes it fade?

Can anyone verify this diagram for me?
When the doors open it will activate the relays connecting 30 and 87 on the relays so that it will be connected to the dome harness (positive and negative sides) which should also allow it to fade since it connects the +/- of the neons to the dome harness.
When the doors close the relay is not active and 30 and 87A on the relays so that it will be is connected to the ground (car metal) and +12V from the fuse panel via a switch which allows it to turn on and off as you wish as long as the key is in.

I think you only need 1 spdt relay. Your making it more complicated than it should be....
Im going to connect mine this weekend with a relay. I will let eveyone know how it worked out and then I will make a diagram for everyone....

you NEED an invertor to run the CCFL, you can't just connect power straight to the Lamps. The kits found online do come with the invertor.

WHITE/BLUE pin3 is 12 volt. BLACK/SILVER pin 2 is varible ground.
Pin2 will change in resistance to turn the lights on and to dim the lights with the dome light. The lights will turn on when the door is open, or when you switch the dome light to on. And the lights will dim with the dome light

IF you follow the diagram it will emulate whatever the dome light does. The addition of the swtich will let you turn on the light manually when they doors are closed.

You can find cheap CCFL kits here
http://www.case-mod.com/store/produc...roducts_id=620
It comes with an inverter and 2 CCFL...the price is very good.

The Cold Cathode Rod that I bought from Target is a CCFL if I'm not mistaken. It has the molex connector and a 12V cig lighter plug all wired together, with the power inverter. I bought those $18/each.

Thanks for the instructions via email. I went out to Wally World yesterday after work and picked up a couple of those neons. They are 2 color, blue/purple. You can set them to hold either color or do the whole sound pulse thing via the transformer control box. Everything came together easily only problem was that I cut the heck out of my finger with the crappy plastic packaging that the neons came in. You were right about the passenger side being a little more difficult to hide, I got it in there about 3/4 way back and rigged some zip ties together to hold it in. The wiring was simple, no problems although I did reverse the pos/neg the first time (I went with black/stripe being pos. and solid black being neg. *WRONG*) but I quickly changed them around and vwala, let there be blue neon lights shining on the floorboards. My folks came to my house last night for dinner and I showed them the mod, even they being senior citizens appreciated the work!
Thanks again, you took the headaches away from having to poke around with my multimeter!

hey tl6speed, i followed the instructions you posted and the diagram using the ccfl's the only thing I havent' done is attached the switch to ground. As of now the lights only come on if i turn the switch on... do the lights only turn on with the door open and dimming if i ground the switch????
thanks in advance

I ordered the CCFLs they are on the way, any pics of how they come out?
For those that install lights for the rear as well.... where do you guys end up mounting it?? and how long are the neons u use for the rear.

Hey, for those ppl who bought the CCFL kits that come with the switch. The switch that comes with the kit is not the same switch that is refered to in the diagram. I've following diagram is basically the old one, but moded to be specficially for the CCFL kits.
Please make sure that the WHITE/BLUE (Pin3) wire is 12V and the BLACK/SILVER (Pin2) wire is GROUND. Reversing these wires may damage the invertors.

I want to install a blue neon for both the driver and the passenger under the dash as well as under the back seat for the other passengers and possibly under both the driver and passenger seats. I will later on add some for the cd player lighting and a few other dash lighting accesories. So what I want is to know how to tie all this in to where when the doors are open or whatever to make the door lights come on, ALL the neons inside are on and when they go off (door closes or whatever), I want them to fade like the dome light. Also, I want them all ran to a switch that I can turn on to have them on while driving. I might want the dash neons for the cd player to be on another switch or just be on with the parking lights. Yeah...I want them to be on with the parking lights. If I could I want the seat neons to be on with the parking lights as well and still be ran to an independent switch and do what I said earlier. If somebody could send me instructions on how to do this it would be much appreciated. Thanks All!

Re: trunk lighting
Pretty Busy, but i'll write up instructions when i get around to it. But basically, you are doing what you did with the footwell lighting. I tapped the 12V and Ground from the stock Trunck Bulb. Colors should be relatively the same (but not confirmed), black with silverstrips is ground and white with blue or read with black is 12V, so you just tap the invertor into that. Just use velcro or double sided tape to hold the invertor in place and use zip ties to hold the lamps through the holes (place your head in the trunk and you will see the holes).

Just completed this mod today after I busted one of my CCFC tubes last week, and I have to say it was a cheap mod that I really love.
To anyone who wants to do it, I HIGHLY recommend getting the White CCFC computer tubes like in the above link instead of the Blue Neons. They are much smaller, and I think the white light looks much classier, and isnt too brash; even with my car being AGP.
The switch that taps into the ground turns them AND the dome light on at the same time.
Here are the pics.
This is the switch, I dont use that power outlet at all, and if I need to use it, the switch just slides right out; it's not permanently mounted.
Thanks guys for all the helpful instructions.

damn mr. hyde.. that is a good place to put the switch. I never thought of that.
I have the underbody neon kit. Can I wire the footwell neons to 1 main switch that lights the exterior and interior? I want a switch for the footwell to turn it on when i park my car. I don't want it to fade out.
some help please? e-mail me directions at kimsw0121@hotmail.com thanks!

I had mounted my switch next to the dimmer switch for the instrument panel. There seems to be room for a button there, not sure what it is used for though.
rmarin2, have you gotten the dimmer switch to work out yet?

when i bought my car the previous owner had mounted two toggles under the kick panel, one for the neons and one for a remote line for an extra amp for a sub. i had my neons on the other night driving some people around and i have to say i like the "ooh" and "aah" factor when people see it. good work on the switch, thats a good place for it. i use my lighter outlet for my cell phone holder though so it wouldnt work too well for me. nice job though man

The switch just sildes right out, so if I need to use that power port, I can. I usually use the one in the center console for my cell phone, and since the V1 is hardwired, I never use this one.
