I didn't buy it on my TL. Although not an Acura, we did get the extended warranty when we bought my wife's Land Cruiser.

Normally I don't believe in extended warranties, especially on Honda/Toyota/Nissan products, but in our case we were buying used, and even though it's a Toyota and the car was clean, I didn't know the previous owner and you just never know.

Not to mention on the Land Cruiser I was paying for a used car more than what I paid for my TL and in 4K miles I'd have no warranty. It had 46K miles and Toyotas come with a 4yr/50K warranty.

I ended up paying $900 that will warranty it up to 100K miles (bumper to bumper) and a $50 deductible. I think the $0 deductible was over $1,200. I continued to rationalize that while Land Cruisers are renowned for their reliability, and while it may not break often, if and when it does, it will be pricey. Since I'm not expecting it to break often, I'd have to bring it in more than six times over the next 50K miles for warranty work. Something I was willing to gamble on since reliability is legendary with these trucks that can easily clock 300K miles on the odometer.

My advice since you bought used, see if you can negotiate a cheaper price, but it may be worth it. Maybe consider getting a $50 deductible.

With my wife's previous car ('98 Pathfinder), I was told that it needed new struts at 48K miles (Nissan warranty is 3yr/36K bumper to bumper and 4yr/50K on powertrain), so I was basically out of warranty for this item. I was quoted $900 to get them replaced. I complained to Nissan that struts shouldn't go out that soon on an SUV that has never been off road! They agreed and offered to pay for the parts, but I'd have to cover labor (about half of the cost).

I ended up not getting the work done and bought the 'Cruiser. My point is that it doesn't take much to ring up $1,000 repair bill on today's cars.

Good Luck!

I just got a 2002 TL in December and bought the 7 year extended 100,000 mile Acura warranty with $0 deductible for $770.

It would have been $720 with the $50 deductible, which did not make a lot of sense.

Can you check other dealers for a better price?

thats the best... thats off the net... Ray Laks wouldnt touch that price... they staid firm at 1300 with 0.

Anyhow, i did a warranty gold price planning on the platinum...

I called tonite and got the "DIAMOND" price...

Our Diamond 'Bumper to Bumper Plus' plan provides coverage to repair or replace ANY FAILURE OR BREAKDOWN of all PARTS AND LABOR of your vehicle EXCEPT, but not limited to, the following few items:

The coverage explained here reflects those of our Diamond plan, which covers wear and tear as well as mechanical breakdown repairs. If you are interested in additional coverages through our Gold and Platinum plans, please call our Sales Consultants for details.

Benefits:

We pay for repairs by VISA/MasterCard
Your choice of reputable repair facilities
Emergency roadside assistance
Towing ($50 per occurrence)

Lost key/lock out ($35 per occurrence)
Mechanical and electrical components
Coverage on covered parts worn beyond manufacturer's specifications

So he said that that also covers stuff like for example... when new my power window rolls up or down in 8 seconds, well 3 years later its taking 20 seconds....

thats "outside original mfgr. tolerance" and is replaceable.

It supposedly even covers squeaks and rattles !

so ne how list price is $1829 for 5YRS/100,000 Miles (5 years from purchase of warranty, not 5 years from ORIGINAL CAR INSERVICE date like Acura)

-$500 promotion that actually ends tonite... was $1329.

I called twice, hemmed hawed, etc. and after the third call and him talking to his "manager"

it's down to $1199 with 0 deductible, no tax, and free financing for 10 months ($199 down, $100mo X 10mos)

I think i should do it??
U?

I bought it ne how

$1199....
DIAMOND bumper to bumper...
covered until February 2007 or 100,000 miles.

small list of exclusions... ZERO deductible, I can go to any ASE Certified shop (including the Acura Dealers)

it COVERS rattles

Covers "wear" beyond manufacturers tolerance...

i.e. --- the window that used to take 8 seconds to roll up or down, still works but now takes 25 seconds...

Put $299 down, 10 mor payments of 90 bucks.

free roadside assistance, etc.

Tommy, that's a good price, IMO. I bought a similar "exclusionary" warranty for my 97 Accord for about $1000, and it paid for itself in about 6 months when my tranny needed replacing!

To all you guys who think nothing will happen: it happens to the best of us. I think an exclusionary extended warranty should be figured into the cost of car ownership.

I highly recommend Auto Advantage Inc. (autowarranties.com). They responded very quickly to my claim.
