Need suggestions on Winter tires

hey guys,

I'm looking to put a winter tire on my car. Do you guys suggest me buying a 205/60/16 5 spoke rim, and throwing on a set of winter tires with that???

what do you think I should go for?

Should I put a winter tire on my stock rim??? any ideas what would be a good choice?

thanks

do you guys suggest me to go for a

205/50/17
or
225/45/17

on the stock rim???

the dunlop sport m2 is only available in these two sizes. What tire would overall be a better size for the TL-S???

hey man, sorry when i talked to you earler i didnt realize there wernt that many choices for your stock size. if 16's are in your budget i would run a 205/60/16- to 215/55/16. the wider tire the less traction in the snow.

I would save the stock rims for summer unless you have plans to go for aftermarket rims later.

I went to the toronto accords group and scored a set of 03 V6 ord rims (16" TSX style) with stock tires (Michelin A/S 205/60/16)for about $600 cdn. I'll wait for these tires to wear out then put 16" snows on them probably the winter sport m2. Normal touring winter tires are typically QR-rated, compared to the stock VR of our 17s.

Without changing the geometry, the stock tire size and the TL-P size (same as Accord V6) is pretty safe sizing. Anything taller, wider may throw off the speedo calibration.

yah even though they are expensive, I think I'm gonna go for the dunlop sport m2 tires. they are about 205/tire here in toronto, and they have them in stock at 205/50/17.

that should fit fine on the stock rims...right?

I am in the Toronto area as well and I have researched tires for weeks. I will probably go with the Continental ContiExtreme, 215/50/17. I have talked to at least 6 tire dealers and every one has a different recommendation. Inasmuch as I have read good reviews on the Continental, every tire dealer has done his best to talk me out of buying this tire.

I funny that I go the same thing about Continential xtremecontacts. Every tire place, including my tire guy tried to sell me winter tires and not all season. I think they have a deal with the winters that they have to either get rid of them or they get extra for selling a certain amount. Don't know but I've heard nothing but good things about the xtremecontacts.

would you be able to post the name and phone numbers of some of these places??

I have called two places, and both of them said their stock of this stuff is very low, thus preventing me from getting these tires.

I think I've narrowed it down to two tires

Incidentally, for the ContiExtreme 215/50/17, all of the aforementioned dealers are $210 per. Taxes extra.

how is it possible that tirerack is selling the conti extreme contacts for like 100 USD for the 215/50/17, and these guys are selling them for 210 cdn???

do the math...100 * 1.32 = 132 cdn. Where do they add 80 bux a tire???

I figured I could be on the road with these all seasons for 600 bux all in...is this possible?

The only 215/50/17 tire that was quoted at less than $200 was the Goodyear RSA at $182 less $25 incentive, or $157 per. Every other tire I have sourced is $200 +. I agree with the price discrepancy US >>> Canadian. We are getting ripped . . .
Any thoughts on the Toyo Proxes TPT or the Dunlop SP5000 as an all-season???

Welcome to Canada. The Canadian population and therefore purchasing power are 1/10 of the US. So the cost of things, especially import items, tend to be more expensive to bring in with only 1/10 the volume price break. As a result, you cannot just convert an US price to Canadian currency, and think that's how much it will cost in Canada.

But at least cars are cheaper in Canada than in the US.
