Need serious help

I have a 00 acura tl and was looking for parts
When I found an owner who lives 40 mins away from me with a perfect 99 TL and the inside & out is amazing but the only problem is the tranny is slipping. I would love to buy the whole car instead of parting out a beautiful well kept car with the hard to find OEM lip kit and spoiler.

I was thinking the owner wants atleast 950 obo for the car but if I can get it for atleast 700 and all I have to do is find a new tranny which I have found one for a 01-03 for $450 I'm just thinking to myself would the engine & tranny years have any difference from the 99-00 models tranny compared to the 01-03 tranny. I'm not sure if the 99 TL is a type S or base model. But I was just worried if Buy the 01-03 tranny would it be compatible with the 99 engine with any problems or new ecu or anything. I'm not sure what the difference in the tranny & engine but I'm just wondering if it would be a direct for and would it need new ecu or wiring harness or anything. I've been a 2G owner for 2 years and I'm only 18, but I I know finding a well kept car with the oem lip kit and all is very very hard to find.
If I spend around 700 for the car
$450 for the tranny and maybe another $450 for an engine
Or buy both for around $800-1k
Could I say I bought the car for a good $1500-$2000?

Any help, suggestions, comments.

A perfect kept and good condition 99 TL and rebuilt motor & tranny. Would it be a steal or would it be worth it? The car itself has 260k miles and tranny is slipping, I just would like to know y'all's opinion. I love these TL models and it's very rare to find an oem lip kit for the 2G TL. And with my 00 TL instead of taking the tranny & engine from that that has 188k miles I was thinking of keeping it as is and give it to my little sister in another year or so because my parents wants to give it to her for her first car and I go find another car or I can buy this 99 TL and fix it up for atleast $2000 and say I basically bought it for $2000 with great condition inside & out and a
Rebuild motor & tranny with low miles and if I ever decide to sell it or trade it it could be more profitable than my 00 TL.
I need help and opinions
With my job I have now as a side job I work 3 days 12hour shifts for 36-40hours a week for $11 pay an hour which is around $300-$350 weekly if I work a good 3-4 weeks I'll have this car up and running in no time. And if I get hired on I'll get paid $16 an hour.
My father tells me that my car is fine and runs good but it's easy for him to say when he doesn't drive the car daily and take care of I like I do. Either way in another year or less my 00 TL will be taken away from me and I'll have to get a new car sooner or later anyways.

The 00-03 motors and trans are different than the 99. You can swap the motors easy enough, but the trans is a different issue. the 00-03 trans are 5 speeds and the 99 is a 4 speed. The 5 speed trans wont work with the 99 ecu.

If the car is in GREAT shape and you can get it for even $950 BUY IT! I think if you shop around enough you could have the trans rebuilt. I have an '03 TL-S and had mine rebuilt with the updated case and ATF cooler for $1800 w/ Lifetime warranty. Would prob be cheaper for the 4speed but if you could find a good 00-03 engine and trans together that would be even better, however as fsttyms1 said IDK about the ECU, there may be alot of sensors, ecu, wire harness etc... that would have to be swapped as well and that may be expensive. These are great cars, yes the 5 speed trans all have a manufacturer defect and tend to start slipping / go out but there's also a trans from a newer model Accord that alot of guys on here have installed and had no further issues although your talking more cash there too... ultimately it's up to you but if it was me i'd take it to a mechanic I trust have it checked out and research having the trans rebuilt/swapped and compare that total for car and work to it's KBB value. If it's anywhere close I'd go for it, especially a type S. But ultimately it's your call. The engines are pretty solid as long as it's had a timing belt done within last 60,000 to 100,000 miles or so.... My car is pushing 200,000 now and still running GREAT, plus I have a CL-S parts car with another engine waiting in case mine ever quits.... Check out this thread on the Accord tranny swap,

Keep your 00 running and in your hands, if it needs a trans at some point, a used accord from later better year will drop in! much cheaper than rebuilding current trans

Your sister needs a lower cost to operate car for school or young life
Premium gas and expensive parts = car wont get what it really needs!
A TL as a first car invites a few crashes and tickets, unless she (and you and dad!) go to a few `track day` schools, held at racetracks = where you can learn the TL limits in a safe environment

Look for a nice used Nissan or Toyota for her, something that runs on 87 octane
