Need to Replace My Oil Pan
The threads on the inside of the pan are stripped, and I used a self threading drain plug that has helped slow the leak, but I really need to put a new oil pan and gasket on there. Does anyone have an idea of where I can have this done, besides the dealer, without going crazy on the price? I'm thinking Pep Boys but I'm a little uneasy about that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I wish I could do it myself, but I'm really not that well versed to do an oil pan. A friend of mine is a master bmw tech and he could do it, but I'd rather have it done at a shop and have a warranty on the labor

If ya have a new oil pan installed, the warranty isn't important.
Have ya considered having the present oil pan's drain hole re-sized by drilling/tapping with a steel helicoil insert ?

I've thought about that, but all of those metal shavings in there would just make me nervous. It would definitely work but I think I would much rather get a new pan

It that is your concern get a magnetic plug and the Pick Up screen and Oil Filter will do the rest.. Remember than its Pick Up Screen > Oil Filter > Rest of Engine so those shaves will not see the light of day anywhere near critical engine components... With the Magnetic plug they will get secured until the next oil change.

Yeah, and ya can also use some cheap oil to flush out the pan after the work.
