Not sure, I have never used the K&N oil filters before. I do use a K&N air filter on my CAI but that's a different beast all together.

Mobil1 all the way.

K&N stock drop in filters do help better air flow and you dont have to replace them for probably longer than what your car goes til..

I use Amsoil 5W-30, it costs twice as much as the Mobil 1 super syn (14CAD vs 7CAD) per qt even at cost.

and it performs so well on the track , so smooth and the car really pulls

M1 filter and oil. Oh and be wary of other oils that claim to be synthetic because Mobil1 and Amisol (and I think Royal Purple) are the only true fully synthetic oils.

Amsoil series 2000 or 3000(their top of the line oil). If going with a regular filter then use amsoil or puralator premium plus. The puralator filter is better than the mobil 1 in filtering out particles.

Some say they are but they are only hydrocracked oils. If a company uses hydrocracked oil they can legally label it as synthetic even though they are not Castrol is one of them

The best oil is the one that you can afford without hurting the wallet. Oil is the like a religion, there is no one "BEST" religion. Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple and Mobil 1 seem to be the ones that most people prefer, they are also highly promoted within the race and auto enthusiast community though. You have to weigh quality vs price scenario. Conventional oils like Pennzoil, Motorcraft, Honda/Acura oil, Valvoline, etc will do fine for everyday driving if you change it according to the dealer's maintenance interval. (Every 5000-6000kms or 3 month, whichever comes first). How long your engine last depends on various factors: 1) How hard do you drive your car? 2) Driving habits 3) Driving environment. 4) Weather related temperatures 6) City driving vs Highway driving 7) Ownership horizon, etc. Changing your oil and filter regularly is one of the keys to keeping an engine clean and deposit free. You can ask tell ten or more mechanics and they will all give you different answers to as to what type of oils to use and brand preferences. Just choose a quality oil with the API certification.

I would do a Used Oil Analysis if u really want to know how well the oil and your engine is doing. You may be suprised. The conventionals such as Havoline may give you better wear numbers than synthetic for the same OCI. Ofcourse..this depends on the factors that the person with long username stated earlier.

Mobil I and Amsoil are regarded as a Group IV oil, some say they are mixed with group V oils, who knows...

Redline oil is a Group V oil Only...

downside: its so fucking expensive...

redline also uses the most moylbendium than any other oil, and the polyol ester base stocks are considered the best (and most expensive)

redline's friction (or lack thereof) has shown the highest increase in horsepower in engines (3%)

redline oil is like a high value sports car. not a lot of advertising, and no marketing saturation like other motor oils, and no care for market pricing... just high quality oil for those who can afford it...

I agree a more scientific approach is required but is a oil analysis needed when you follow the dealer's oil change interval? . A more scientific approach is required to determine an oil's quality level. I don't think any conventional oil will surpass a geniune synthetic oil. Michael Wan and RR seem to be the oil experts. BTW, anything wrong with a long user name??
