If you are having an odd problem- one side low beam doesnt come on without flipping switch a few times or goes out while driving and flip switch
You need a new HID KIT, throw out those ancient technology OE units- ballast- ignitor and bulbs,
get brand new 2010 technology for $60-200 USD for complete kits
They call them kits but for us its straight parts swap- old HID for NEW HID

the problem is moisture gets inside the headlight housing and drips on to ballast- killing it and the ignitor and sometimes the bulb
Old as these cars are- its well worth having the new bulbs and other parts
Acura wants hundreds for 1 part of the system!!

ck HIDeXtra | HID, LED, Xenon Vehicle Headlight Kits & Bulbs and morimoto brand other places
Use 35 watt `standard size` ballast (its a fraction of old OE size, and 5000K color bulbs for closest to stock color

see the diy section for HID install, couple of hours of easy work

Too be honest I've gone through several Ballast and Ignitors on my 05 TSX in less than a year. I've tried sealing it to the max, purchasing another headlight and the longest I ever had a HID kit last me on my driver side was 2 weeks tops. Now if you say there is another way of installing aftermarket HID kits then do tell because this website is all over the place and I can't find a solution.

Im trying to bring my tl back to oem specs after having a hidextra kit on for about a year.

When installing the hidextra kit I had to replace that factory connector with the new hidextra connector. It worked for a while but went out and after having installed a new hidextra kit and relay this time.. nothing.

So now I need to hook the wiring back to factory specs and have the dealership look at it. or maybe they will work after I hook these new oem bllasts up with power.

Tip

To retain the oe plug (car side) on the factory HID wire harness, you have two options.

1. Buy an adaptor wire loom to plug in play from the oe factory wire loom to aftermarket ballast/HID kit. There's a DIY thread here somewhere.

2. Use the oe ballast connector. Just cut the connector off of the oe ballast and put it on the aftermarket ballast/HID kit. Then it's plug in play to the oe factory HID wire harness (car side). Thay way you can go back to the oe ballast with no problem if you want to.

iS the adapter you usually get to convert from OE to Aftermarket ballasts easily.

the adapter on the other end thus would be known as the a Matsushita Female.

for rambeezy = since you have an 05 TSX, perhaps looking in that thread section will provide more assistance!
The TL has its issues, maybe the tsx has a different problem

Because the TL has HID stock there is no need for an additional relay or wiring harness
Most choose to solder or use connectors to attach new ballast to the cars power leads.

Have you sent the failed parts to HIDExtra, or CALLED and ask for their opinion on failure?
They have a no questions asked- 100% 12 month warranty

Are you buying junkyard ballast and ignitors?
do you have moisture inside the headlight lens?

Expect 1500-2500 DOLLARS estimate at dealer as they want to replace every part- just to be sure

I would spend the $200 for a Morimoto kit if had probs with hidextra, they are high dollar and several members use them with no problems .there was once a recall on ballast... but was warranty covered and parts replaced

Ive been there and done that, they're no DIY in installing aftermarket HIDs. In addition the OEM ballast installs on the bottom of the headlight like it was explained on the 2nd post. I'm just curious to know where is this DIY on aftermarket HID's that I have yet to find in this forum.

there is at least 1 in the actual diy thread section, have you found that at top of list of threads for gen2?

In the general, and problems areas- several more diy threads that didnt make it to the official list- but are useful and pic filled!
A simple scroll thru the thread title will yield many results

some mount the new ballast right onto the oe ballast = and leave that in place so no leak issues!
If you can operate wire cutter/pliers and a screwdriver, have car ramps = you can do this job!

note: the new ballast are a fraction of the OE ballast/bricks size and weight!!..mounting options abound

So the dealer says my headlight bulbs need to be "factory" not aftermarket.
I call bullshit because ive used the same bulb type from hid extra for years before this problem came back

The dealer says my headlights need to be replaced to oem.
I call bullshit because the headlights are oem and less than 2 months old

The dealer says my ignitors need to be replaced.
I call bullshit because they were replaced when I replaced the headlight assembly

The dealer also said they call the ignitor the inverter...
So Im about to lose hope

Ive switched my headlights back to oem from aftermarket setup with hidextra.

hidextra worked for a year then went out and had to be replaced, only to have the same problem,, one or both headlights flickering off. sometimes they both stay on though..

With my after market parts on the dealer said they couldnt mess with it or inspect the headlights. So after getting NEW oem headlights, oem ballasts, (ebay) oem ignitor. AND 2 #8 connectors to connect the ballast to the power (from a junk yard), I finnaly have my car back to oem.

now that the dealer has inspected for $150. they tell me to replace the things I just replaced..and itll cost $1,300.

With the new oem replacements in place. Both will turn on.. but then maybe one will go out.. then sometimes maybe another.

Sometimes they both work the entire time (at least 4 hours straight)

You need to test the HIDs by powering them one at a time straight from the battery. You should of tested them before installation. Do it now if you haven't already.

You need to know definitively wheather each HID system is go or not... yes or no.

Untill thats done you are just guessing.

If you know for sure that the HID lamps are good then it's going to be on the car side and not the HID components.

One simple thing you can test are the relays. There are two relays, one for each side of the headlamp.

As an alternative you can just replace one relay and use that as your known good relay for testing the two relays or barrow a relay from another circuit, just make sure it's LKQ.

The dealer is correct in someway about the bulbs and with good reason for demanding oem bulbs. Aftermarket bulbs may last a year or two but it can be defective right out of the box, you never know.

You will probably save money by buying brand name bulbs. Considering how much labor is required to replace each bulb on a 2g tl each time.

Remember always test the HID lamp direct to the battery... on, off, on, off, etc... new or used.
