Question Need Help With Mesh Grill Mod!!!!!

I tried cutting one sheet of the mesh to the shape of the grill, but im having trouble on how to fit it in. Should i cut out the "A" symbol in the middle of the mesh or should i just put a sheet of mesh right over the top and just cut the shape of the grill and put the A symbol right over it? THIS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS. ANY SUGGESTIONS???????????

Take off all the chrome and then...

Use cardboard and cut it to fit the grille then trace the desgin onto the mesh.... You'll cut the crap out of your hands if you need to remove and refit the cut piece, those damn things get sharp once they are cut.

Enjoy..

Yes, cut the mesh and allow it to push flat against the back.. You'll end up cutting an oval instead of a circle for the "A" to fit in. Don't worry it'll all be covered by the chrome.

i know exactly where you are now, keep truckin through, you'll be done soon.

I would take theactual "A" off and put alittle bitof mesh behind the "A".. It looks really good IMO.

Question Stage 2 complete

Aight, i cut the shape of the "A" symbol out of the grill shapped piece of mesh. It fits just fine. Now, i also cut a small piece of mesh to put behind the "A" symbol. What i want to kno now is am i supposed to cut the shape of the other chrome piece that the "A" symbol attaches to, out of the already cut mesh??? You kno, the chrome wing shapped piece, am i supposed to aslo cut that shape outta the Mesh so that i can put the "A" symbol on the wing thing, and the wing thing screwed back to the entire grill????

Question Here Are The Pics Of What I Was Talkin About

Here are the pics. Now is it supposed to be like the first two pics, or am i supposed to also cut the shape of the chrome wing piece outta the mesh as well so that it looks like the third pic? If its supposed to be like the third pic, then am i supposed to cut the shape of where that winged chrome piece goes so that it can go right up against where you screw it in?

Unfortunately, I would suggest pulliung it apart and painting it chrome if you want to keep it that colour. Simlpy because I had that exact grille on my 99TL... after a few months something bled from the mesh onto the chrome and it was really hard to get off.

Now I'm working on a mesh for my new TLS, I have bought a can of clearcoat and a can of chrome paint.... both from teh spray paint section of Home Depot.. the paint is indoor/outdoor paint for metal.

I've cut the mesh for the lower front lip, fit it to the car, then I'm giving it a couple of coats of chrome paint and then a coat or two of clear. i don't expect it'll change the appearanceof the mesh but it'll prevent the mesh from loosing it's shine and going flat grey.

Wink Stage 3

In the painting process right now. Just primed it with some Rustoleum Primer. That spray paint is good cuz it prevents rust. Then ima paint it black. It should turn out nice. One thing i noticed though was that the mesh doesnt exactly lay in there perfectly flat does it? It kinda slopes inward from the outside cuz its held tight on the edges and that the center wing piece adds pressure to it causing the mesh to slightly slant inwards. Idk, doesnt look bad or anything, but was just wondering if thats the way it always comes out? Notice that i cut the entire shape of the wing piece. I got pist and just cut the whole shape out. LOL Its hidden though buy the chrome wing.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but you don't need to worry about rust because the GutterGuard is aluminum, which to my knowledge doesn't rust. Have you tried removing the oval piece of mesh behind the A? I think having the black show through would give it some nice contrast. Anyway, good work.

I guess it is aluminum. IDK, whichever it is, just to be on the safe side, some nice primer and coat of rustoleum black semi glossy should seal good. What oval piece are you talking about. If you see in that first pic above this where i have both mesh pieces i cut out, is that little piece of mesh i cut thats going behind the "A" the oval piece of mesh your talking about? I dont understand.

Yes, the oval piece of mesh that goes behind the "A". Also, I didn't know you were painting the mesh black, good choice. But still remove the oval piece of mesh, not much of a point since the oval behind the "A" is black already. It's your grille but give it a shot before you put it all back together for good. Looks good.

Talking

I do like the way the mesh looks plain silver on the car but i think the black mesh would look better with my Silver TL. But yeah, i gotta wait till tonight before i put it back together. That paint is still kinda sticky. I gotta let it thorougly dry before i put it back together. Anyways, ill post pics when its all installed and done. Later.
