Need help with dealer purchase: 02 TL type-s 66k miles
Hi,
Need some help negotiating the proper price for this car.
02 TL type-s No Nav.
66K miles, silver, spolier, nothing aftermarket, one owner, great cond, a few marks here and there.
This is being sold at an Acura dealer.
The current "Sale Price" is about $21K
He knows he have a trade in worth $4k.
He claims they are into the car for $19k, I didnt buy that and told him I would keep looking. The car is great and I think we would like to purchase it, but I think they are asking a Tad too much.
Opinions?
Thanks
Kip

I just got mine in November for $17,500. It's pretty much the same set-up '02 TL-S w/ 69,000 miles, no navi., w/ oem kit, no dents or dings just a few small scratches, one owner, etc. I think you can get it lower. When I got mine they also knew I was putting $5,000 down on the car. Look around a bit more you'll find something better.

I find it very hard to believe they are into the car for $19k as he claims
He said this was a car their dealer took care of so they gave the guy top dollar for the trade in, whatever that means.
I just want to know what people think is a fair price, even if they have not seen the car which I know makes a difference in one's opinion, but it seems like $21k is very high.

Far too much money for any '02 TL
Do a search from your home zip code on autoTrader.com to get an idea of what they are selling for in your area.
You will even see them for less at CarMax and they only sell for few hundred under KBB $

too much - I paid 13K for a 2003 TL-S (Non nav) with 68,000 miles. Granted it was from my sister and I know she was hooking me up - but knowing what I've seen on kbb.com I'd have to offer them $17,000 or $17,500

Go For It!
Hmm that is a tough one. However see if you can talk him down to about 17,500. The price is going to seem high, but you have to remember that it is a Honda first. Honda's are great cars and they hold their value, especially if you take care of it which the previous owner did according to you. The mileage is right considering the car comes out a year prior. I think it is a good deal, but see if you can talk him down....

Also just because kbb said your trade in was worth $4l doesnt mean it is. It could have negative equity, did the dealer confirm that it was worth $4k? Cause if not, that could be why the price is so high also. And then you gotta factor in the area you live in...all that mess plays a part

Too much!
I paid about 21K in January this year for an '03 TL-S from a local Acura dealer. It at 40K miles and had add-ons like a transparent bra, splash guards, sunroof deflector, new floor mats and was detailed inside and out. Very minor paint touchups., like new tires(OEM originals)
An '02 with 66K miles should be under $20K

I have been quoted at multiple dealers for trading in my TL (2003 TL-S with under 32k miles, OEM kit, non-nav). The best that I have seen has been in the high 15k range. For a 2002 in that condition I wouldn't pay more then 17k for it and that's being generous.

You purchase a new car for $55K with $20K for trade in vs. $50K for the car and $15K for the trade-in... same difference. If you were in the car biz then you realize that a purchase + trade in is not really two separate deals. In the end the customer gets the equivalent of something close to KBB trade in value which isn't top dollar.

Also, the difference in blue book price between your car and a Type-S with normal miles is about $4000, more with Navi.

NorCal.
KBB says trade-in value of the car I will be trading in is around $3600 fair condition. I think it is in at least fair condition.
Think I am going to ask if they can do $16.2 out the door.
