Need advice
So I'm looking into some TL-S.
Here's a couple I have my sights on.
Car#1 (preferring this one)
Car#2
After doing some light research, it seems like the trans issue is the main concern for this gen. I'm currently reading through the Tranny Failure Thread, getting mixed experiences and opinions on this matter.
Is there anything I should be worried about if I end up getting one of the two?
What else should I look for?
Any preventative options I can do?
I heard about the Oil Jet kit, could I buy one and install it myself as a preventative option?
Will that option last me?

So many threads like this....
First off, I cannot see the cars you posted.
Second, if your tranny was replaced you should be fine, but it's still a ticking time bomb despite the oil jet kit.
00-03's had the 5 speed which were more prone to tranny issues, 99's were less likely to have tranny issues.

Sorry the links to the cars were the names.
Car 1 : http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
Car 2 : http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
I linked Car 1 to ownerlink. It got the 2nd gear serviced on the recall, and had the SRS issue resolved. Apparently the extended warranty is still active. Definitely going to look at it on monday and probably pick it up if possible.

the oil jet kit was a recall and is still current if the car needs it, those cars will have it done since they are at the dealer now.
read the last several pages of trans thread--recent info has what you need to know
A: its out of warranty
B: its going to fail at some point- be that 1 or 10k or 50kmiles from now
C: Blue paint on bolt heads of trans means warranty replaced unit
the price on both cars is way too much, you need to know if the water pump/timing belt service was done at 105, and most important- what kind of trans warranty will they offer?
Have you looked at our Member Cars for sale section?
in The Black Market- look at bottem of main page after you sign in

2nd gear service--lol,,they install an oil line into the opening on top of trans where you usually fill it- that sprays fluid directly on 2nd gear and its shaft- to prevent overheating and snapping in half at speed
It has NOTHING to do with the real issue of 2nd and 3rd gear clutchpack wearout
10 minute test drive wont tell you anything about trans condition--except jerking thru shifts or severe clutch slipping on full throttle from 25-35 mph light throttle and stand on it as it shifts down and back up thru the gears

"Is there anything I should be worried about if I end up getting one of the two?" Yes, the transmission.
"What else should I look for?" As 01tl4tl said, timing belt/water pump should have been done on both (1st for time, 2nd for time and miles). That's a $700-$1500 job depending on location and who you take it to (dealer/indy shop).
"Any preventative options I can do?" Nope.
"I heard about the Oil Jet kit, could I buy one and install it myself as a preventative option?" Not sure if you could buy one but it wouldn't matter.
"Will that option last me?" Nope.
"I linked Car 1 to ownerlink. It got the 2nd gear serviced on the recall, and had the SRS issue resolved. Apparently the extended warranty is still active." 2nd gear recall is the oil jet kit. Extended warranty is NOT still active. If it says "open" on the ownerlink site that means the trans was never replaced under the recall/extended warranty. I would be highly leary of buying this car without an extended warranty for the transmission that you will almost assuredly need at some point.
Car 2 could be the one to get. It's at an Acura dealer so they should know if the 105k service was done and if the transmission was ever replaced. If the trans was replaced post-2005 (blue bolts, no oil jet kit) and the maintenance is up to date then that's the one I'd try to get .... if you must.
