Exclamation Navigation Question.....i've searched...

Hows it going everyone...

I just bought a cf card reader, and cf card....i just need to navi files to the 512 cf card...

I still have the original navi hard drive, and its been working yesterday...but it stopped working on me today...

Would an Acura Dealer send the files to the cf card for me?
I know the files are still on the hard disk.

Can you just put the DVD into your computer and copy the files onto your CF? Or if direct file transfer doesn't work, make an .img or .iso of the DVD and then write that onto the CF?

No, unfortunately that's not an option as the 1999 TL used a PCMCIA-based hard drive to store the navigational data. So there is no DVD to copy. (The 2000-2003 TLs use the DVD-based system.)

The hard drive systems have much less storage capacity so they can only cover individual regions of the US.

Oops, that was stupid of me (duh!). I should have said, can you connect the hard drive to a computer and then transfer the files. Many laptops have PCMCIA slots, and you can also buy a PCMCIA PCI card to add to a desktop.

Well i used an older laptop that i had with the dual sized pcmcia slot on it...

Luckily the Acura Navi drive still contained the navi files, and I was able to copy and paste them onto my CF card...

As soon as i pushed the pcmcia CF into the navigation brain... the GPS screen appeared on the touchscreen!! props to Acurazine, and everyone helping!

Now the only problem is that I still have the oldest database version...what is the latest update that I could use? Would i have to upgrade my 512 compact flash card?

According to Paul Mooney's navhelp.com site:

In Dec 2002 Acura released the last disk-based software map updates and no new update is expected.

And there's no need to upgrade your current compact flash card. Just replace the existing files with the latest ones.
