I doubt anything will come, they will keep delaying it and fade it out, and have no release..
Why would they try to update things for old cars w/ old navi when there is a brand new model with new technology Navi out..

How much effort does it take for them to 'update' the data??? Seems that all they need to do is 'plug in' the latest data they got into the database and then start selling the updates for a couple hundred dollars a pop. What's the problem and/or why so difficult/reluctant to keep releasing updates?

it is alot of effort. FIrst they have to Figure out a new algorithm to fit all this data on the DVD. Once they figure this out, then they gotta test everything, COde it correctly, then Test it all out.
the test phase is the longest phase. i think they are testing it now and finding enmorous errors. they say the release is This date and right before the date, they get more errors and once agian its delayed.

... except that the map data is not done by Acura - they get it from a company that does all that.
Does anyone know if the non-Acura Alpine navi's have gotten the upgraded DVD's?

I smell a class action suit. When I bought the car I was informed of yearly updates. This might be breach of contract, false representation of the product and/or service, etc. Come January and there is no update I think it might be warranted for us to start a class action suit.

Good point. They did keep saying on their website and sales and customer service that there would be updates once a year but not many changes year to year. Unfortunately there havent been any changes period.

Worse, imagine driving home from the dealership and realizing that roads built in your area 2 years ago are not even on the map (and no chance of an update)!
I'll join that class.

They will put something out at some point in time.
As I have said before 2004TL our TLs are not the only model with this system. The CL & RL & HONDA ODDESSY minvan also have the same system. This is not an update for old cars some cars are less than a model year old with this system. Not that manynew roads are built every few years. The newer street developements most likely are not even on the latest system.

I hope you're wrong about newer streets not being in the system. I have some friends that use Microsoft Streets and Trips, and they indicated to me that the software was very up to date. If M$ can do it, why can't other companys - especially when they get their map data from the same place (NavTech).

Guys, inevitably there are going to be streets that are going to be missed. They can't just stop and restart everytime there is a new road being paved. I think that the main focus for most of these systems is to have the large metro areas like Philly, D.C., Chicago, etc. as finely detailed as possible with new new restaraunts(points-of-intrest), and changing of espressway routes to being primary. They are not really concerned about a new sidestreet in Hoover, Alabama. No disprespect to our fellow members in Hoover, but you mostly here of the new systems with more of the points-of-intrest as the lead. I am still impressed with all of the streets my Nav system has and mine is a 2000.

I bet they'll put on some sort of copy protection.
I got a computer game lately which came out in March, and if it is copied the game play will get worse and worse until you can not play it.

a backup was made and it works before.
all protection schemes are easy broken and they cant add new ones now since it must work with the current drives.

I noted you have X-drilled/slotted rotors on your TL.
If you could just advise what make is it and your comments on its performance/warpage if any.
Many thanks,

What kind of "graphical changes" are expected?
I think it would be cool to be able to have a screen saver of sorts that you could set to display when the Navi unit has been idle for X amount of time. Like the globe that shows up when you start the unit, now if I could just lock that image in! Or if they had a selection to choose from. Probably never happen, but oh well.
I do wish they would add more detail for smaller towns though. I actually live in a pretty good sized town, approx 70K people, but only the highways and major roads are listed. And even the major roads don't have address data attached to them.

pretty good town is 70 people? OMG.
i guess being from nyc i see that many people in 1 floor of a building at once. hehehe
the lady i talked to said there will be graphical enchanments but i think she was just saying what i wanted to hear.
95percent of the U.S will be covered. I would expect your town to be completely listed.

Going off-topic just a bit, but the funny thing about streets that have been around for a few years or more yet not showing up on the Navi street map is that the street map on my iQue shows a short stretch (< 1 mile) of street that hasn't even been built (yet); however, some other streets that have been around for a few years or more don't even exist as far as the map on my iQue is concerned.
My point? Just that it's hard to figure out exactly what street source these Navi street database vendors (Navtech, etc.) obtain their info from, especially given my observation above...

Hey there city boy, don't crack on VA! Actually, I wrote 70K, as in 70 thousand people. That's not a small town, and again, I am a little dissappointed in the fact that only the major major roads are listed.

No Canadian roads

How can you say there will be no Canadian roads when the DVD toll free order number recording clearly states that there will be partial Canadian coverage of border US cities.
#30
OH MAN! They changed the recording. You are right it says no Canadian coverage. I guess they changed their mind on Canada for whatever reason (any ideas why). They said available late November. They also said 7 Million Points of Interest. 95 Percent US coverage. And this time there was no mention of new interface graphics like they had said before.
The other thing they said was the the update was for 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 cars. What about prior to 2000 Models???? As I understand it those cars had hard drive Navi ...but don't they deserve update data too?....How many years will they come out with updates for our cars?
Oh well what do I care about Canada ....I'm in Florida, way far from Canada.
Does anyone know if there are any manufactures that sell cars to Canada that do include Navi with Canadian coverage?

I have a friend who works for Alpine. He put me in touch with the division of Alpine that handles Acura Nanigation. The disk is expected to release in early November. To answer an earlier question Alpine has already distributed a major update to the Alpine branded navi systems a couple of months ago. No word on what the graphical changes will be just that there are changes. BTW NICK79 these DVD's are dual layer and very difficult to copy so good luck!

Do u guys think they will charge us for the updated DVD or no?
