Navi DVD version 2.11b update information
#201
When I called I was told that those with 2.11b would recieve a patch disc and not 2.11c. I was told that they would put the patch disc in to fix the problem and then put in the 2.11b back in.

Alpine were very helpful and advised that not all 2.11b owners will be adversely affected by the problems identified so far. They recommend having a full set of twenty previous destinations populated BEFORE installing the 2.11b DVD. Addresses stored under User 1 and User 2 are available, but might not be visible if the touch-screen up/down buttons are used. The hardware buttons assure scrolling and viewing.
These sound like cosmetic issues.
Alpine still says it is a patch DVD that will be sent out (not 2.11c).
Of course the main difference from previous versions is the much greater coverage.

Canada
Why is it they're not including Canada in the Navi update? I live in Chicago and do so much driving to Toronto! Is there a special issue I can buy? Why couldn't they include major Canadian cities?
I wonder what people get in Canadian Acuras? Are they just getting Canadian cities or do they get the States as well??
Maybe our neighbors up north can shed some light on this subject. I think its ludicrous of Acura to think us Americans don't venture off into Canada.. CMON!

I am happy that the update now includes my street and when I enter my address, it ends with the 'destination' being right at the end of my driveway. However, after my trip to PA over Thanksgiving, I found out that the updated disk no longer leads me to the final destination of my sister's house in Monroeville or my brother's house in Belle Vernon. My previous version (2.03) had final destinations at their driveways while the update now does not even lead all the way to their houses. It even thinks they live on the opposite side of the streets on which they live. This could be more than an inconvenience if it does this with addresses with which I am not familiar as its final destination for my brother's house left me on a different street instead of the correct dead-end alley on which he lives which ended not even being acessable (via car) to his house. (Note: They both live on 'verified' streets.)
Has anyone else experienced the new disk not being as accurate as their previous version?

I know the old DVD had some limited Canadian coverage. Can anyone confirm that it is still there in the new DVD?
I think there might be several valid reasons why Canadian coverage is not on the DVD. Here are my thoughts
a) We have seen how on the new DVD because of the added roads and coverage the system is slower. So adding Canada would only make it worse.
b) Maybe they planned it all along so that they could give us more and more every new release and perhaps Canada will be in the next release (in 2006 the way updates are going
![Big Grin](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
c) It is more work to verify Canada. So perhaps to keep costs down.
d) Maybe they feel they need to be spending their time on US coverage. I can just imagine that if Canada was included from the beginning people would be b*tching that they are wasting time on Canada when the US is so lacking.
I'm not saying that any of my reasons are totally valid but I'm just trying to see it from what might possibly be Alpines side of the story.

I've noticed there's plenty of people on this forum from the Toronto area. I thought they did have the option of getting the Navi up in Canada. Canada as a whole is much bigger than the States. However, why not just include the major Canadian cities? I'd be willing to pay extra for it.
I understand your point as well. Get the US up to par and than worry about another country.. Whatever the case may be, I'd still like a Canadian addition to the Navi. This would make my life a whole lot easier!

Is the response slower even in areas that have only verified roads (ie same number of roads to compute as before)?
Are points of interest better organized? For instance, can a store be quickly located without having to search through various sub-categories (currently sometimes the obvious entry for, say, Starbucks, has only one store located on the other side of the continent)?

I had a weekend camping trip to a Boy Scout camp in Paisley Florida this past weekend.
This new DVD even showed the dirt road that went to the camp site - which is out in the middle of nowhere.
It showed all of the dirt fire access roads in the national forrest! It even showed a road that was not much more than a carved out grass path!
I love the coverage of this new DVD!!! We were about the only car that never got lost. Other people had stories of how hard the place was to find - but not us!

Regarding Canada, I think they just CHOSE not to include it.
It is not a matter of disc space, because the same dual-layered capacity disc is in the new Accords, TLs, and TSXs, and they all have Canada coverage.
So we know 1) the data is available to Honda and Acura, 2) the data can fit onto a dual-layered disc
They just need to put it in!

I figured that's what it was! They just decided NOT to do it. Looks like I'm writing Acura AGAIN to see if they'll include it in next years update.
From the posts on this board and others, I knew Canadian models had the DVD Navi in their cars. Maybe they'll make an exception for my and give me the Canadian coverage..

I just called the Acura DVD order desk number and I have some bad news to report.
Initially they were saying late Janurary for shipments of 2.11c when 2.11b was cancelled. Now they are saying LATE FEBRUARY!!!
And www.acruanavi.com was supposed to be up by now to take order for 2.11c and it isn't. They couldn't tell me when it would be up but they did say that it should have been up by now.

Wohoo! My new DVD is in the mail and will arrive March 10th. I plan to sell my old DVD (V2.04) on ebay. Question is, in what other cars will the 2.04 DVD work? Besides TLs and CLs? Honda Odysseys? Pilots?
Thanks!
Thanks!
