Nav upgrade?
Nav upgrade?
Those that have the factory Nav system for your TL-S, how do you like it? At time of purchase, I didn't think I need it. Do you guys think it's worth getting? Could the dealer still install it for me if I didn't originally have it in my car? I hope I'm not gonna get creamed by the price for this install.

As for having it installed after you bought the car, I'm pretty sure it can be done. However, I have no clue what the cost will be!!
I don't think the dealer will install a navi into a non-navi TL. However, you can buy a similar aftermarket navi from Alpine (NVE-N852A). You'd have to attach a monitor to your dash using either a gooseneck or a Pro.Fit mount, or get a display/headunit that goes into your "CD tray" and pops up.

Especially the updated DVD version. I had the first generation touch screen in my '99. Nothing but fingerprints and a worn out screen. This one is fingerprint resistant.
Also, you never know when you will have to go somewhere in a hurry and you have no idea how to get there. For example, a hospital when you are out of town, your favorite restaurant in another town, train station to pick up some one, etc. Many uses.
As for the price of the upgrade, I have no idea. I would look into it with your dealer. The only problem with the aftermarket stuff, is where to put it and not have it in the way or look gaudy.

It would end up costing you way more than just buying an aftermarket Alpine unit that comes out of the CD tray.
Well to answer your first question.
The dealer will not install a factory Navi into a non Nav car.
The controls for the manual controls for the A/C & fan speeds are in the Nav. The Non NAV TL & the Nav TL have a slightly different dash set-up because of the screen. The only other way is to go aftermarket. I have enjoyed my Nav for the past 2ys & would not own another car without one.

I will NEVER buy a car (for myself) without a NAVI.
I don't care that it costs $2000. It is worth every penny.
You will find that almost everyone who claims they can do without it merely cannot afford it!

i got the navi cuz of also how it looks in the car. it also has been a great help sometimes. i wouldn't get another car without one. and i think the Acura/Honda navi system is the best around. (user-friendly, one DVD disc)
the benzes have 11...yes 11 discs that you have to use!!:wow: if you go out of a certain area, you have to change the disc...piece of sh*t

Just out of curiosity, has anyone taken their disc out and checked out what was on it (in terms of data types, etc.)? It could be possible to make our own versions of the map disc that the car could read, and perhaps include even more maps (or at the very least change the voice to something else). If no one has bothered maybe I'll hack at it a bit when I get a chance.

I agree with the above sentiments that a Navi is must. I use mine to save my azz at least once every other day...and these are regular work days. I also use mine for a telephone book while. Acura's is without a doubt the best...I've looked at the Lexus, Mercedes, Infiniti and they don't compare. The Lexus is good, however.
