is there a way to change the background color in the nav screen? if so, how is it done?

 

Yes and no. Yes, because in the diagnostic menu there is an option to change the color to a couple of different combinations. No, because there is no way to make the change permanent--once you exit the diagnostics menu it resets to the default colors you have now.
