Center console heat

There is a good amount of heat coming from both sides of my console, even with the back cupholder. You can feel it after you run the car a bit and put your hand between the seat and console. Its on both sides. Is that the catalytic converter? I havnt had the car up on a lift yet so Im not sure exactly where it is. Just wondering....

I used to have a Z06 and the console would always be real hot. Is it something all cars seem to do? I've not noticed it in the TLS. It could be the light inside the console, at least mine has a a green light in it that is always on.

There has to be a vent tunnel. feel it after running your AC. It temps to your vent setting for the back seat vents

the center counsel has 2 vents that run through it for the rear vents! get in the back seat and look. there should be a on off lever and two vents. the center counsel will get hot due to the heat going through it. and in the summer cold with the ac. open the vents in the rear to help eliminate some of the heat in it!

Actually the heat if from the exhaust for the most part just radiating up - not that big of a deal unless you want to keep beers cold in there - wont happen haha

you wont get any exhaust heat coming up through your center counsel. its just the heating vents that run through it

thanks for the info. I didnt think about the rear heat. I thought it was just a missing heat shield or something. Thanks

if your are sure that it isnt the exhaust...then why does it get warm when you dont have the heater actually on?

It is definitely *not* exhaust heat you are feeling. If you have the climate control set to auto, you may have the heat on slightly without even knowing it. The vent duct runs directly underneath the entire length of the center console to the two vents in the back of the center console. During the winter months when the heat is used the air flowing through there is warm and it will warm the surrounding areas. Because heat rises it amplifies this phenomenon. In the summer months when you have the A/C cranking cold air, the opposite happens--the console and sides become cold to the touch.

The situation will be magnified if the two rear vents are set to the closed position, because you have all of that hot/cold air being forced through the duct with no place to go. If you make sure the vents are left wide open then it will still get warm but not as bad.

The really cool side benefit of the duct placement is this: the duct also goes directly under the cupholders and in the winter you're most likely drinking something warm (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) and the heat in the duct helps keep the hot beverage warm. In the summer the opposite is true--you'd most likely be drinking a cold beverage (soda, iced tea, water) and the chilled air from the A/C flowing underneath helps keep the cold beverage cold. I doubt the Acura engineers intended for this but it is a nice side benefit of having the rear vents.

Yes the back vents in the center console, right below the arm rest pad. If those levers are set to close then the air has nowhere to go.
