Nav Question

Hi. I'm wondering how much it would cost me to install an OEM navigation system on my '02 TL-S. The seller is selling screen, brain (navigation drive), and map disc. I know I need to have other components in order for me to install. So, could someone give me a rough estimate of how much it would cost me (parts & labor)?

Thanks

Very common question. Comes up at least once a month. Use the Search feature. In fact, someone did a DIY. It involves removing some of the interior to run cables, removing part of the dash, etc. In short, unless you do the work yourself, it's cheaper, a lot cheaper, to buy an aftermarket unit like a Garmin.

The only thing that I don't see is the new dash piece. I did this mod on my car and I love it. I did the install myself so after all is said and done it cost me $1000. Now if you pay someone for the labor, good luck. It's not hard, but it is very time consuming. There are a lot of wires you have to run from the trunk to behind the dash. And because you have to do that, you have to pull out the back seat and remove the entire dash and center console. It took me about 8 hrs so I would have to say to have someone install it would cost around $500. Good luck.

The wires you had run, are they the "wire harness" in my list? Also, if you don't mine me asking, how did you manage to get all of the parts for $1000?

Do you have any pictures of your installation process?

I coverted non-navi to navi, too. Well, for the wire harness, buy the display & navigation units that have the harness cut and go to home depot and buy the shielded wires and reconnect them. For GPS antenna, I bought the aftermarket for alphine on ebay for $46 shipped. Go on ebay and buy the used hvac switch & computer for $50. I was lucky to buy it for $30 but I am sure you could find one for $50 or about $80. go to http://www.acuraoemparts.com to buy the rest that you couldn't find used like trunk brkts, hazard witch (only $21), panel assy. meter. Good luck on your navi conversion. Make sure leave 1 or 2 days free to do it properly. If you have any question, feel free to ask. Try this https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114084

This is not mine, but someone I already did a really good detail write -up how to covert. http://home.comcast.net/~beinstein/NaviInstall.pdf

When I bought the units it came with the plug end of the wire harness and about 8 inches of wire. From there I had to figure out which wire went where and connect it to the display screen or where ever it went behind the dash. That's what makes the process so long. I did everything with shielded wire even though you don't have to. I am not sure what the wire harness from the dealer would look like. If you end up going the route I did you will also have to buy another harness (I got mine from Best Buy) because you will need a few wires off it that have the pin that fits inside the plug. Kinda confusing I guess but if you decide to do it, let me know and I will help in anyway that I can. I got the DVD unit, screen and climate controls off ebay for $800. Then about $200 for all the other odds and ends (antenna, dash piece, bolts/nuts, hazard light switch). I got the wire and all the splices I needed from work, but that would have been another $50 maybe.

Unfortunately I don't. It was just my friend and I doing the installation and once we saw how in depth it was going to be, we decided it was going to take forever and didn't want to kill time taking pics. There is a DIY on this site, I will try to find it and post it here.

Here is the DIY I was talking about. It helped me a little, but I mostly relied on the ETM and the service manual.
