Mystery Mod PIC

He's not goof'n. That's the piece that replaces the top plate on your intake manifold. Yuo OEM piece if flat as a pancake.... this is the mod that allows addidtion air chamber space for "enhanced" Hemholtz resonance effect. Looks fantastic! I wan't one, that's for sure.

MAN... I went to SEMA on Tuesday and couldn't find that mod anywhere... I guess I should of found out the company that was going to make it first.... that place is huge... neva seen so many crazy ass cars... this blows away any car show i've been to...
anyways... saw the comptech supercharger for our car... so sweet... so expensive...
So who manufacutures the mystery mod?
It just allows for more air capacity in your intake manifold?

I posted on Helpholtz many times regarding the CAI.
Let me get this straight:
Helmholtz on air box...Bad
Helmholtz on intake manifold..good.
If it clears the hood, I am all for it.
BTW, this looks similar to the box John Lingenfelter fits to his Chevy small blocks. Itr makes good power there but it is combined with changes throughout the intake system, i.e. valves.

the guy's name is doug and i think he is part of the floridian acura dealership called rick case...and they did not have a booth. can you believe our buddy frank had to seek out this one guy in that humungous place?!?!?!
so i guess it's more air as well as better flow (due to resonance)? would this mean we are running the car leaner and therefor would require additional mods to deliver more fuel?

Honda's aren't mass air are they? I don't see a mass air meter anywhere.

Just to clear up some questions:
That IS in fact the mod. And it does clear the hood.
Hondas use MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors.
Your ECU will handle the additional fueling requirements with no problem.

oooohhh... how ... mysterious...
Curious that he didn't have a booth... you have a 'new mod' that you think a bunch of people want ... no booth so people can't find you ?????
Hopefully one our members that have access to a dyno can get one an post the results.

Is this "Mystery Mod" have a official name?
Or is it officially known as the "Mystery Mod"?

Hmmm..... I think Im going to wait until a few fellow forumites have it on their car and report in the results. But....if it truly works as advertised, and makes the dyno numbers I saw, its well worth the $299!

As far as no booth. If this is his only product, he would look pretty silly with an 8x10 booth and a little chromed steel (mystery mod) thingy sitting on a card table. He would need time and money to prepare a really nice display. One product does not necessarily make a business, especially before it's sold.
Also, national show vendor floor space, at least in my industry, is usually sold out a year ahead of time, and he might not have been able to get a booth. I'm betting that someone here will give him the benefit of the doubt, strap one on and let the rest of us know how it does pretty quick though!

besides the relatively cheap price of $299, wasn't there also a pitch about the mod being installed in so many minutes? like 15 minutes or something...
that does not look like it can be installed in 15 minutes!

if so, how much will it be affected? I am getting like 18 mpg right now, and I don't want to get something that will hurt my mpg even more.

Well, if you want more power you need more air and fuel. Simple as that, at least until someone comes up with a more energy-efficient fuel.

Anyway, look at the headers Comptech makes for the TL. They don't use more fuel but cause a dramatic increase in power. Our 260 HP S gets the same mileage as the 225 HP TL-P but has the same displacement.
In some cases, better tuning can actually create more power and use less fuel.

I dont think this thing will use up more gas if you dont drive like a bat out of hell all the time...If you are trying to conserve, I would imagine that it would be more efficient for the car...I cant wait to put it on...Shyne

That's not necessarily true. Efficiency is the key. The jury is still out on this mod so we really don't know if it will increase consumption or not. It might, but let's wait and see.

Bottom line--if you want huge power gains, you will need more fuel. Why else do some of these mods involve swapping out the fuel pump for one that can supply more fuel at a higher rate?
