My trunk won't close -- any idea why?

The trunk is open and it will not close. Ay first i thought it was the latch that was out of place but that does not seem to be the problem. The car was repaired at a body shop for a hit in the rear but that was just over a year ago so I am reluctant to believe that this condition is related. can anyne suggest what may be causing it to stay open? When the trunk release switch is activated (pressed) there is a noise in the back but it is not the usual 'trunk release noise'.

Welcome to AZine

The trunk is wired to open electronically, not mechanically. If you're hearing a noise in the back, I would think the electronics are sending the signal fine.

I would lube it up, apply penetrating oil liberally, and wiggle it. If that doesn't fix it, then there's an alignment issue or a connection broke.

Are you sure that the latch isnt in the closed position? If not manually close it with a screw driver and try to re open it.

There is a solenoid in the trunk release mechanism that fires in order to move a spring-assisted arm latch to release the trunk. You might have to remove the assembly to check if either the spring or the latch is broken. If it's broken and jammed, then it will prevent the trunk from closing. It seems like the solenoid is firing fine when you press the button.

Too many bodies. The 2G TL can only fit about 3 full grown adults in the trunk...

If that doesn't work, check the little hook that the latch grabs onto. It can be adjusted up and down by loosening the 2 bolts on either side of it.

If none of the above lube and body check doesnt work.
Maybe its the fuse?

Okay, this is contageous. Mine won't close now either.

The open/release mechanism is working fine. After removing the latch assembly I checked all the functions. They all work fine except the catch mechanism. It closes fine, but the slightest pressure will release it. So the result is that when you push the trunk lid down and hold it, I can feel it catch. But as I start to let up on pressure (to hold the trunk lid down) it will release before I completely let off.

Some there must be something within the catch mechanism that is "weak" or something, and it can't hold it in a closed position.

Note, this has nothing to do with the electronics or otherwise. I've tried all the function with it off and disconnected. I manually place it in the closed position, and then I insert a screw driver and start to apply pressure simulating a force to pull it down and pop, it doesn't take much force to cause it to release.

Since there's nothing I can see that can be replaced, I'm assuming a replacement of the latch assembly is the only option.

Yes, one of the weirdest problem I've encountered.

Latch problem

Hi all,

I'm having a very similar problem with the latch. In order to close the trunk fully, I end up having to slam the trunk VERY hard (and loud)..

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?? Or, what did you end up doing to solve this?

I tested by attempting to close the latch with a screwdriver, pushing in the latch slot (this is where the "striker" would push in).

The latch would not close with a regular push. Only a hammer strike on the latch would make the latch close up as it should.

So.. It's a weak latch system - similar/same problem as described in previous posts.

^Remove the latch, lubricate it, and reinstall it properly aligned.

If that doesn't fix it, you need a new latch.

If you're sure that it's not electrically related, and decide to remove or replace the latching mechanism......be sure to mark where the original one was positioned. This will give you a reference to start from when adjusting or replacing the latch.

when this happened in my TL, the fac acura actuator went out and was jammed inside (in the open position). Had to be replaced. I replaced it with an aftermarket doorlock actuator I had laying around.
