New here

Evening all, thought I would introduce myself. Just picked up a '99 Laguna Green TL last week, was a trade in at work that I couldn't let get away. Dropped trade value on it, $1500. I'm the second owner, has 230k highway miles on her, and is mint for the age and mileage. I am not the most active member, but I've been lurking around here for about a week, getting an idea of what to expect, and seeing what a great community you all have here.

Anyway, love the car, picked it up to replace a massive car payment, and its a incomparably better car than what I was paying $300+ a month for (2009 Ford Fusion SEL). I am an ASE cert KIA technician, so on the off chance you have a KIA question, I would be glad to assist. I'll also be glad to assist diagnosing any other concern with any make or model. I can't guarantee a fix, but I might be able to set you on the right path.

Thanks for the opportunity to get to know a little more about my new gem, and to get to join in on the discussion. -Jordan

Welcome to the forums. Please post pics of the car when you have the time. Might also want to double check the maintenance on it, especially regarding the trans.

Hey 99LGMUA5, first off Greetings and Congrats !!!! Good Luck with the TL !

As you'll soon find out, the '99 being the first year model of the 2nd Gen TL's....it's kinda unique, a bit of an oddball when compared to the '00>'03 models. One good thing is that the carryover 4speed AT was more reliable than the newer 5speed tranny's.

When doing any repairs or troubleshooting, keep in mind that there are some minor mechanical detail differences. But ya have the skill to figure this stuff out. Check out the DIY sticky and do some research on the common issues. Chances are that most of them have been worked out with the 230k mileage stated.

If ya don't really know the prior PM.... check the tranny & t-belt first. Then prioritize the other potential weak areas due to normal wear and tear. Ya know this stuff !
