Do you do anything special, disconnect battery, drain anything? I know with the motorcycle you drain the gas or add a additive to keep it fresh. Most likely you would just start the car once a week right?

Bring her down to Cali, and I'll store her for you. Plus I'll feed her well and polish her down every few weeks.

i disconnect the battery, remove everything from it (tools, papers, etc), clean her up (you dont wanna store a dirty car) and during the winter (like once or twice a month) i let it idle for a few mins and floor it a few times (on park). I also move it forward/backward like 1 ft each month to make sure the tires dont get any flat spots...

t0ast: cali is too far from here, but thanks anyway

Why bother, knowing that the tranny nightmare is gonna haunt and resale value is gonna hit rock bottom a couple of years down the road. If it's a Porsche or Ferrari, that would be different.

i dont get the point on storing the car for winter when its meant to be a daily driven car unless of course you have a trophy winning show car.

It is front-wheel drive, why would you put it away for the winter? FWD is straight in the snow, not as good as AWD, but easily managable...

the winter beater is a dodge shadow... perfect beater it rides so smooth i love it! (for real )

btw, to all those who say they dont understand why i store it, etc... well.. let's just say i spent quite a bit on this car and i do not want to have to pay for repairs/replacements because winter has literally eaten my car... with all the salt and sand on our roads here in QC, it's impossible to keep a car clean/rustless if you use it during the winter... and who said my tranny is gonna fuck up? and what does it have to do with winter? I dont see the point... Also, it has nothing to do with FWD or RWD... it's just cause i wanna keep it clean. I take the car to shows during the summer and i am representing a shop... so i cant have a rust-bucket... Storing it is the best to do, IMO... and i know a lot of people who store their car for the winter... keep in mind southern winters are very different from canadian winters...

I store a car too. Unfortunately it's not the TL I store. I do drive the TL all year long tho. Nothing wrong with storing a car to take care of it!

, and although CT isn't as hardcore winter as Canada, we get the same amount of dirt and salt here.. I'm still not really seeing the reasoning. But to each, his own.

I think if you have another car it makes sense. I didn't trade in my previous car so having the 3rd car makes this decision much easier.

I just stored my TL last night. Here are my reasons for storing it:

In Buffalo our winters are REALLY bad.

1.) The salt kills the paint on our cars.

2.) The hard ice (after a melt down then a refreeze) KILLS your suspension. Especially Ball Joints.

3.) With Low Profile tires you bend the crap out of your rims and maybe bust your tires. Yes you could buy new tires/rims with lower profile but that's just as expensive as 3/4 price of a winter beater. Might as well spend a couple hundred more on a winter car.

4.) People not wiping the snow off and then the icycles off of their cars fly off on the highway and scratches your paint, cracks your windshield , makes dents....

5.) Now to be a good driver on the road you have to wipe down all of the snow off the car with a brush and that scratches your paint.

6.) Spinning your tires when your stuck, kills the tranny. We all know how great our trannies are.

7.) ABS system always kicking off due to sliding. Over use. May not break but just too much use.

8.) Chances of getting into an accident are high. Sliding into cars or cars sliding into you.

9.) Cold NOT good for your engine.

10.) With a winter car you just DRIVE. Not really stressed out by being worried about the above happening to your nice TL.

11.) Then you look forward to driving the TL in the nice weather. In this case you don't really get bored of the TL since every year you'll be very anxious to drive it when the nice weather comes around.

12.) Finally, how could you see your TL never shiny and full of snow???

I have more but just can't really think of them now. I'm sure after a month or 2 in the snow with my winter beater I'll remember them.

Picked up a 1990 Acura Integra 4 dr auto as the beater.

My bought the TL because it's a big car and with lots of safety features like side air bags, stability control, etc. I would never drive a small beater car in the winter when there is more chance other cars are sliding around, plowing into me in the wet and ice. I value my life more than a few rust spots on my TL. But if the beater is a huge 4WD SUV, that's a different story.

You are incorrect about draining gas for storage, you should NOT drain gas out of a gas tank if it is being stored because it will rust. You fill it to the top and add stabil fuel in there. Now, if you undo the gas tank, let it breathe, and have it properly vented for no gas inside, thats another story, but NEVER drain a gas tank, espeically on a motorcycle. And when you add that stabil to the fuel, you should run the engine to get that stabil in the fuel lines etc. My bike is sitting on stands, with stabil in the fuel, covered, lubed chain, clean bike, and battery sitting inside on a tender.

How is the cold not good for the engine? Maybe if you live in antartica with no engine block heater, or when you start the car floor it and beat it, but the cold is actually better for the engine once the engine warms up to temp, makes more power, and its more efficent.

interesting reads. I have a beater( 97 civic) and whenI bought my 03 tl type s, i thought about that as well. Living in the south east(VA) the winters arent that bad, but salt on the roads kill the rims. I will be getting a car cover though for when im not driving the tl, as i dont have a garage.

I also just stored the TL for the winter.

Until the new place is done it would live on a Chicago side street, and that I will not deal with. The ASPEC package and tires will not survive an inch of snow let alone what we get here. I wouldnt be able to get out if I were plowed in and I just wont deal with it. Thankfully my mother's driveway is gigantic, so it's there. Just cant decide on which battery tender to get.

Yet.

Is there any difference from storing the car in the Winter Vs, Summer?
My 03 TL-S will be stored in the garage.
I might be away for 3-4 months in the summer of 2006.
Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I to store my car for the winter, but not the TL. The TL is my local beater

When i store my other car it is in a slightly heated garage (long story), parked on carpet squares (to prevent mositure from reaching the rubber), tires overinflated 5-10psi, stabil added to a empty tank then filled with gas, damprid buckets in the interior cabin to absorb mositure, i leave the back hatch cracked a little, battery taken out to sit on battery tender, steel wool in the exhaust tips (to prevent rodents from making home in my engine ), car washed, waxed and covered with an indoor breathable cover.

I am sure i am forgetting a few other things about my winterizing procedure, but thats the jist of it.

For the bike i do the same thing except through it on bike stands, add the stabil, and cover it with a sheet to prevent dust build up.

wow, im tired just talking about it

now the jetski is a lot more work to winterize
