For all of you that put on megan headers , did u use the new gaskets or use the stock ones? I can't find the leak, I've had them for about 4 weeks now. I can't find the leak, anyone know how i can find out where the leak is? When i rev in Neutral to like 4k 5k and let off it makes a whoosh sound, kinda like a blow off valve and a low ticking noise as i rev through gears when driving. Thanks

I dont have the Megan headers, but have you retightend your bolts? You should after driving a while just to make sure 1 didnt back out any. Also, you can use your stock gaskets. The whoosh sound is your CAI...or is it louder now? The ticking sound will be a header leak, not the whoosh sound.

Check the bolt connected from the cat to the header pipe. Thats where the leak is most likely to occur. Make sure the bolts are tight. I used the gasket provided by the way

I have a feeling its there because the whoosh sound is coming from underneath the car, its not my intake im sure, and i did retighthen most of the bolts after like 2 wweeks, but its been leaking since day one, gonna have to check the bolts from the headers to the cat. i didnt retighten those bolts.

The whoosh sound is normal. When you let off throttle, there's less exhaust gas travelling through the pipes all of a sudden. It's just the pressure evening out.

The ticking noise is what a leak would cause. Have you found the source of it? It can't be that hard, man. Have someone rev your car, and listen to the front bank, rear bank, by the downpipes, and finally at the catalytic converter. Unless there was a leak in the piping itself, those are the only places you could have a leak.

yeah but the whoosh/BOV sound wasn't there before, does everyone that gets headers have that sound? It sounds kinda cool lol but still just wondering.

As far as the ticking, it's hard to tell where its coming from, im like yea its coming form here and then im like wait its coming from here, and then i jsut get freakin confused, im gonna goto my mechanic tommorrow and have him tighten the bolts, if not hopefully ill just do it my self tommorow. I was just wondering if it could be the gaskets? because they dont look shit like the stock ones, the stock ones are like some alluminum material , while the ones that came with it are like cardboard or something...

Also, have your mechanic check the flange on the catalytic converter for the ticking noise. The flange might be vibrating against the main header pipe where they bolt together. The flange might need trimmed back.

I also have a slight ticking noise. But its not very noticeble. I am going back this weekend to have my bolts retightened. I'm hoping the flange just needs some additional trimming and its not a leak. BTW, I used the new gaskets that came with the headers. G/L.

Of course not. The factory exhaust manifold is designed for silent operations. Aftermarket headers have larger diameter pipes, therefore a better flow. Killing noises are the last thing they are built for.

Mine does the same thing. I love the sound.

Oh, and about the ticking noise... You said you couldn't find where it's coming from. Well, it really shouldn't be that hard to isolate the location, so I'm guessing either you have multiple leaks, or you're hearing valve ticking noises.

Well, have the mechanic look at it, and hopefully he can fix it for ya. Good luck.

Would you hear valve ticking noises from changing headers? Because that is EXACTLY what it sounds like. Whether is is actually the valves, I'm not sure, but I never had any ticking noises before the headers.

the common noise from a header leak is a ticking sound. Usually comes from right up against the engine block because of a pin hole size leak in the gasket or maybe a warped header flange. I had a leak in my headers on my old truck and it sounded just like that ticking sound that got louder when I got on it....just exhaust gas getting out. Has nothing to do with the valves (headers dont).

I didn't notice any pronounced valve ticking noises after installing my headers. But I did have a leak on the front bank downpipe where the header meets it, and that was solved by tightening down the bolts.
