My Friend (325ci) wants to race me (TL-S)

How fast are these 325ci's? I myself do not follow BMWs...so I was wondering if any of you guys know what's up with these cars? I never knew they made 325ci's. I always thought it was either 323ci's or 330ci's. BTW..he's stock. I have a TL-S Stock. He wants to race from a stop. This will be in a secluded straight road with no traffic/cars just fyi.

Kinda leaning this to another side of this topic... I see all these different models of BMWs on the streets and can never tell the difference between them. Which ones are slow and which ones are fast compared to TL-S? 323i, 323ci, 325i, 325ci, 330i, 330ci, and 330xi. (<--goddam that was long haha.)

Thanks for the help people...

you should not have a problem beating him.

stock vs stock, the only 3-series BMW that is faster than a TL-S is the M3...

318,323,325,328,330, you can beat them all.

Correct, M3 is only 3-series BMW that could take a TL-S and it would take it easily, but an M3 is a true sports car. You will smoke our friend even if he has a 5 speed and shifts perfectly, you should still beat him handily.

not even the 330's will match up to the TL-S. 330's and TL-p would be neck and neck, but not with TL-s

Good driver with 330i/ci ZHP will take a tl-s in 0-60,1/4 miles or highway race.

A 330i/ci stick will give a good 1/4 miles and highway race to tl-s.

As for a stock 325i/ci, ofcoz u have no problem taking it down.

you shouldnt have a problem with the rest... actually the others should be really easy... only only thing i will give bmw credit for is the way they gear their cars, on the highway they can move.... but hey... so can i!!!!

Word. It would be nice having another $30k car in your driveway! Tear that kid apart; everyone with that particular BMW thinks their car is a rocketship!

I agree with everyone else, but won't a 330ci with the performance package kill a TL-S? Last time I saw a magazine it said the 0-to-60 was like 5.6 for a 5-speed.

330Ci stick with a good driver would actually beat the TL-S.

325i is a big joke against the TL-S. In fact, you should give him a head start to avoid hurting his feelings.

you really have to take the times that are posted in a magazine with a grain of salt. those guys testing the car are pros and they really know how to push a car to its limit. no driver would launch his car on the road just to get a 5.6sec 0-60 time. at least i wouldnt do that.

I thought the 330ci with the M package would be a pretty good race for the tl-s?

the 2003 330ci has 225 hp.

Don't know about the 2003 but the '04 and '05 model 330ci's with the performance package have 235 HP and go 0-60 in 5.9

330i's are aggressively geared, even on the automatics giving them an edge. The TL's are not. On top of that, for a good launch.. the BMW's are RWD giving them another advantage. Just keep that in mind.

...just wanted to clarify that the M3 is not a 3 series BMW, M3, M5 are M series

Haha YES... I even beat a 330Ci in my brother's RSX Type-S ... believe me, the only thing you should fear is the M series and 5 series. Beat them by more than 1 car length.

The performance package stiffens up the suspension and adjusts the ECU. Its good for about 10hp at the crank.

Like others have already said, with the 3 series, you should only worry about the 330's. A 330 automatic though shouldn't be a problem for a TL-S, a 330 5spd would be a driver's race I think. BMW has a tendency to underrate their horsepower, so even though the 330 "only" has 225hp, its still quite a bit faster than you'd think.

A 325 should be no problem for the TL-S assuming both are stock.

As for the 5 series, at least the previous gen ones ... The 540 is the only one to worry about, and with a modded TL-S you should be able to keep up with (not necessarily beat) a 540. I've been able to keep up with 540s with my mods in the TL-S, no problem.

Not sure about the new bangle designed 5-series though.
