man. now my passenger side ballast is out. I checked the bulb and it's fine. Switched it with the other side, so it's not the bulb. Took my other bulb and put it on the passenger side, and it doesn't work. The ballast makes this short buzzing noise, but doesn't cut on. dammit. they go for 100 bucks. what a bummer.

If you are hearing the electric buzzing noise, then the control unit (ballast) may be fine. It could be the ignitor which is a cheaper fix.
Swap the control units and see what happens.

nice. i will try that out. thanks for the advice... one thing though. When the ballast is on, it makes a buzzing noise no matter what. it's just that it's making a short buzzing noise. and it stops.
Welcome to the club. My first retro wasnt sealed properly, after installing it i washed my car, turned on the lights and one of them went south on me.. The problem here is that the ballast opens into the headlight and is positioned so that if there is any water what so ever in the headlight it will drain right into the ballast. Do not use the same washer that you took off from your headlights. Get yourself some foam washers. There is a picture of it in my closed thread in the vendor market section.
Also make sure you seal your headlights proper.

Is there a easy way to get to the ballast to swap them and see if it's the ballast that is broken?
I had some auto body work done, and needed a new headlight, and the light hasn't worked since then. The guy who did the work said the ballast was real rusty, so he was assuming the ballast broke... I want to try to test it to make sure it is before buying another one... also is there a place to get them that isn't going to try to rape you?

well, i would say you have to take the entire headlights out..both of them..and swap em out. you can't access them without the headlights being taken off. Search in the BM for a single ballast. I just purchased mine for 80 shipped.. good luck!
