MY '03 is overheating

for several days now my car has been nearly touching the H on the temperature gauge. This happens when ive only driven the car about 5 min or so. I check to see if i have coolant in the car but its looks like i do. At this point i dont know what to do. it aslo usually happens when the car is at standstill. For instance i was in the store and i left the car on and i come back and its blowing hot air out of the AC. When i look i see the needle bout 90% near the H on the temp. gauge. Did this, or does this happen to anyone else. Thanks any help will be appreciated.

btw- '03 TL-s navi now with 9800 miles..6 months old

this is a Serious problem. I'm surprised you didn't go to the dealer once it started rising! This will do damage to the engine.

So here's my simple solution. go to the dealership! :o

bring it to the dealer asap. continuously driving when overheating will porbably blow up the engine or even caught fire.

Yes, yes, yes....take this to the dealer immediately as this problem can do permanent engine damage! It sounds like your engine's thermostat is failing to open when it should to allow the cooler radiator fluid to exchange with the hot fluid in the engine's core.

Of course a failed water pump will have the same effect too.

My car overheated once too. They changed the thermometer and everything was fine after that. Your car might have the bad water pump since it is so new. I had 30k miles on my car when it happened. Good luck...

Have the car TOWED to the dealer; DO NOT drive it there, or anywhere else. An overheated engine in a car like ours with all the aluminum components is a BAD Thing.

Idiot check- make sure you didn't get a plastic bag stuck to front of the radiator. Happened to me once, years ago, on my '93 Z28. I went to the dealer, they didn't find it. I ended up going over the system myself. The distinct lack of airflow through the cooling fan is what clued me in. Not sure why they didn't find it (had the car for two days!).

well i added some more coolant and it dont seem to be doing it. Its doesnt happen all the time. But right now its seems to have cooled down a little, but im not sure since all i did was drive to Auto Zone get antifreeze and come back. I will just take it to the dealer brigt and early in the morn. Those folks @ Plaza Acura are so focking slow. Thats the only reason i didnt bring it there on Friday. But thanks for the help ...

That's pathetic that the dealership didn't find that plastic bag. I can't even imagine it.

Yeah... it sounds like the thermostat isn't opening, or the radiator fan isn't turning on either. When it's hot, does the radiator fan kick in? You've definitely got something fundamentally wrong. If everything is working properly, It shouldn't have anything to do with the weather or air conditioning. I just took my car to Vegas in 120 degree heat back in August, and for the whole trip, the temp gauge stayed where it does at the beach. (a few clicks below center)

I don't think it's the water pump issue that is part of the recall. That recall is only in place because of clearance issues between a mounting bolt and the timing belt!!! The problem in that case, is NOT the water pump failing, but the timing belt getting chaffed and breaking...

Still, As others have said... get it checked out ASAP. It shouldn't be that hard for the dealer to diagnose, and it could definitely cause some serious damage to an aluminum block engine.

Good Luck!
