MPG... normal - and tire sizes..
I lost most of my mpg recordings when I formatted my computer but here's the last 2 tanks:
258.7 miles on 14.494 gallons: 17.848
240.6 miles on 13.964 gallons: 17.230
The readings that were lost (about 4-5 of them) were all 18-19 mpg.
Now I admit to pressing the gas to 3/4 occaisionally and flooring every once in a while... but 17 mpg sucks bigtime!
I usually fill up at Chevron although I've had to go to a sh!tty 7-11 once or twice. I drive only in the city, so that doesn't help either... but 17 mpg!!
What can I do!? She's ready for her first oil change, I'll do that this weekend. I'm afraid with i/h/e I'll get 10 mpg.
Anything I could do that might help? (yeah yeah, besides driving slower
)
What kind of mpg difference is 225/45 compared to 235/40? Negligible?

Nate, I've been getting the same mpg for my TL as well, and I haven't really even floored the car nor have I driven it hard, like I drive my pops Accord.

I'm getting an average of 26.4 mpg. Mix of city and highway driving. I too get a bit heavy with the right foot but 17 mpg..sumthin has to be wrong. Take it in to the dealer and complain.

I get 17-19 during mostly city driving. When I do take trips, I get 24-25. Keep in mind that the highway driving is all 80MPH+... in FL if you do the speed limit you get rear-ended or passed like you're going backwards.

We've had this discussion before....and this is what we have learned.
There is definately a variance. I tend to blame this on driving style/ambient temp/& length of trips. However, some say the variance is because of quality control problems. Essentially you have to decide for yourself. If you drive 300 miles at 80 mph constant, no slowing, no accelerating, and are getting 17 mpg......something is strange, unless you are going up a 10 degree grade for 300 miles (hmmm using the power of triginometry...after 300 miles on a 10 degree grade, you're altitude would be...) or if you are running in a higher altitude, or if the ambient temp is...about 200 degrees.
My other theory is that instead of an O2 sensor, Acura used very small elves in the exhaust manifold, sometimes they get drunk and they always send a lean signal to the ECU, thereby causing the car to run rich......wait a sec, that's the answer to life, the universe and everything

I noticed that my MPG's were better after 5,000 miles, oil change and increased tire pressure. But i hardly do any city driving.

Intake will decrease your milage and headers and exhaust will increase it.
I average about 25mph with mix city/highway driving. I am pretty heavy right footed, especially on freeway with 3rd gear. Love that feeling of 80-110mph in a blink of an eye. If you live in colder areas, your mileage will be a little lower. Try using the Mobil 1 synethic 0w-30 when you change your oil. And use the NOS fuel injector cleaners once every few months to keep the intake/injectors clean.

Not sure what your problem is, but I have averaged over 28 MPG over six fillups with 20% city and 80% highway driving. I love the sound of my CAI so I tend to go peddle to the metal when the opportunity presents itself. In addition to the CAI, I have oversized tires.

As for the headers/exhaust, the way they make more power is letting the exhaust gas exit in a more efficient way. More efficient = better gas mileage.

Oh, yea forgot about tire pressure.....I like to run it pretty high, about 35 is normal for me....feels stiffer and better for fuel economy.

I/H/E are more efficient than stock, that's why you car can run faster. All three are "breathers," as in they make your car breathe easier. Bigger/better tubes = better breathing. Headers are not really so simple, but the idea is still to breathe easier.
Imagine trying to run a marathon breathing through a straw, then with an open mouth. That's the thinking.
In theory, all three will increase MPG by being slightly more efficient, i.e. - have to burn less petrol to spin the tires. In practice, however, your MPG will probably be a little lower. Why? Well, you got the stuff to go faster, right? And when you bolt all that nifty stuff on, you OF COURSE put it to work by driving a little harder.
We could put this argument to rest by doing a before and after test. Not on a road, but all scientific-like: put the car on a dyno and measure time/distance/consumption with before and after I/H/E mods. Any takers? I predict under 5% increase in MPG.
