Mounts & Suspensions Questions
Mounts & Suspensions Questions
99 TL 110k miles
So my mounts need replacing, any aftermarket mounts in the budget range or should i just go OEM?
also i have the vaccum line on the mounts, i would like to remove this feature, how would i go about this and where are they located?? as i do not like the fact that it could effect my idle, which i have an issue with currently.
i plan to replace shocks and get Tein SS as i had them in a previous car and loved them. But my question was, while i'm taking the suspension apart, what should i replace as far as control arms, ball joints, etc...

Go with the aftermarket parts as they are going to be way less than 1/2 the price of factory OEM's. Check around for the best price on the complete mount package deal. You can get the front and rear mount's with non- vac assist. The best place to disable the vac assist is at the solenoid's "T" for the mounts....just plug the vac hoses.
Non-vac assist mounts....what kind of "feel" can you expect from them? Will they vibrate or be smooth similar to OEM?
Im all for making things simpler than OEM, but I liked when I couldnt feel my TL running at a stop light

Getting non vac-assisted mounts will definitely make the idle vibrations more pronounced. They will definitely vibrate compared to the OEM fluid filled mounts, but will probably last much longer.
That said, as soon as you step on the gas, the vibration will be gone and response will be better with fixed mounts versus fluid filled ones

Granted, the vibrations probably wouldnt be as bad as idling with a dead rear mount (its really bad now, but Im almost positive the front mount is OK, just the rear is bad), but I might just stick with replacing with the DEA vac assist mounts off Ebay. The stockers lasted 70K miles or so, if the replacements last that long, ill probably have gotten rid of the car by then!
Usually you can tell when the front mount is bad by stepping on the gas from a standstill you'll hear and feel a thud without making the tires loose grip.
Also when theres no vacuum to the front one it lessens the movement of the engine therefore better response and eliminates the pulsed vibration if you were having that issue before.
Heres my post about it https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/idle-pulsation-fixed-898629/

There is a set on Ebay. 3 engine and 2 transmission for right around 100.00. The oem front mount by itself is 180.00. The quality of the ebay mounts is something I don`t know, but for the price can`t go wrong.

any particular brand i should look for on ebay??
are the front and back the only vacuum assisted ones, if so replacing those first than i'll do the side and tranny from there. since i'm keeping her been replacing things slowly so don't have to worry about replacing later on.

I got that ebay mount kit (3 engine + 2 transmission) and they work perfectly. They are oem-style, look identical and come with the vac assist for smooth idle. For me, I wouldn't think of buying anything else.
Go for an ebay seller with high sales and a high rating. But they are pretty much all made by the same factory in China.

Im looking at the DEA set on Ebay, about 101.00 or so. They say they are vac assist, so I assume will work similar to OEM.
I followed the service manual diagnostic procedure, but all that does is tell you "front or rear need to be replaced". Using common sense I just pinched off the hose to the rear mount and put the hose to both mounts under vacuum. I could hear the front mount "collapsing" when vacuum was put to it. Release the pinch on the hose to the rear, and then the system no longer held vacuum. To me that means the rear is dead, front is OK. I plugged the rubber hose that goes to the rear, so at least the front will work at some point, still feel the vibrations at idle though (Im assuming the rear probably does more of the work than the front?)
Either way, Im going to replace the whole set since the front is relatively easy compared to the rear. The question was just what set I would buy, but the DEAs on Ebay seem to be a good choice.

kinda of ridculous to me that a vaccum hose for a mount could have an impact on your idle but apparently does. Gonna clamp off the lines and get non-vaccum ones, just can't get past the fact that a line from my mounts connect to my engine.
Yes, they are called DEA or Motor King and come in a set of 5 (3 engine mounts + 2 tranny mounts) with vacuum assist for front and rear. This is what I installed.
The rear mount is easy as pie to install. Read the detailed DIY I wrote.
